Writing is one of English skill that must be mastered by the students. In this online learning, the writer utilizes video as the learning method to teach the students by demonstrating something in good explanation. In this case, the method was used to make the students easy to understand about writing procedure text especially in this pandemic era of COVID-19.
The research design in this study was used quantitative research design, quasi experimental design. There were 60 students in the ninth grade and divided into two groups, experimental and control group where each group were consist of 30 students. The treatment that was given to the experimental group was using a video which consisted of explanation of procedure text, an action of procedure text, and the way to write procedure text which was taught at fourth meeting by using WhatsApp Group while control group was given the same material in the form of textbook. Then, the writer provided to the students to make a paragraph of procedure text to measure the students’ achievement.
To analyze the data, the writer used SPSS 20 that was Independent T-test. The result showed the mean of experimental group was (M= 82.13) and the control group was (M= 77.06). At the same time it was shown the p value was 0.000 (p <
0.05). After knowing the result of the data, it indicated that using video to learn procedure text was more effective to be implemented by the students in this online learning.

Menulis adalah salah satu kemampuan dalam bahasa Inggris yang harus dikuasai oleh para siswa. Pada pembelajaran berbasis dalam jaringan atau online ini, penulis memanfaatkan video sebagai metode media pembelajaran untuk mengajar para siswa dengan cara mendemonstrasikan sesuatu dengan penjelasan yang baik. Dalam hal ini, metode yang digunakan bermaksud untuk memudahan siswa dalam memahami cara menulis teks prosedur terutama dalam masa pandemi seperti sekarag ini.
Model penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah desain penelitian kuantitatif. Terdapat 60 siswa di kelas 9 yang akan dibagi menjadi dua grup yaitu grup eksperimental dan grup kontrol yang masing-masing grup berisi 30 siswa. Sebuat perlakuan yang diberikan kepada grup eksperimental adalah mempelajari cara menulis teks prosedur dengan menggunakan video yang berisikan tentang definisi dari teks prosedur, sebuah demonstrasi memasak, dan cara untuk menulis teks prosedur. Kegiatan tersebut dilaksanakan pada pertemuan ke empat dengan melalui Grup WhatsApp. Sedangkan grup kontrol mendapakan materi yang sama namun materi tersebut dalam bentuk sebuah buku bahasa Inggris siswa. Kemudian, penulis menghimbau agar para siswa menulis sebuah teks prosedur dalam sebuah paragraf untuk mengukur kemampuan para siswa.
Untuk menganalisis data, penulis menggunakan SPSS 20 yaitu Independent T-test. Hasil menunjukkan nilai rata-rata dari grup eksperimental adalah (M= 83,13) and pada grup kontrol nilai rata-rata adalah (M= 77,06). Pada waktu yang sama didapatkan nilai signifikan dari tes tersebut adalah 0,000 (p<
0,05). Setelah mengetahui hasil dari data tersebut, dapat diindikasikan bahwa penggunaan video untuk mempelajari teks prosedur sangat efektif untuk diterapkan kepada siswa dalam pembelajaran daring atau online ini.
CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION
This chapter presents some topic related to the introduction of the study.
They are background of the study, research problem, objective of the study, hypothesis, research assumption, significance of the study, scope and limitation of the study, and definition of the key term.
Background of the Study
World pandemic as known as Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has a big effect in the world of education at all level. It is starting when many countries implementing lockdown or quarantine policies carried out in an effort to reduce the interaction each other. Therefore, all the teaching and learning activities were done online. It was appalling many students that they will learn anything at their home and must learn alone or only with their stakeholder.
Because of that to keep the learning process effective, the minister of education decided to do the teaching and learning process through online learning method.
Schleicher (2020:16) said that online learning became a lifeline for all of the level education in this pandemic era. In this case, some of the students have many difficulties to understand the material as well especially when they learn English language.
Writing is one of the English skills. According to (Anh, 2019:74) writing is a English skill which process the words, ideas, or thoughts about how to express them into a paragraph that will be clear to a reader. Having a good writing skill
will help the students to deliver their ideas in the written form. Unfortunately, El- Maghraby (2021:117) said that writing is not an easy skill, because thinking, constructing, and writing ideas are needed in the writing process. Peterson (2003:1) said that students will most likely benefit from doing exercise in each chapter to improve their writing skills. Therefore, writing skills must be practiced many times.
There are several types of writing text such as procedure, narrative, descriptive, recount, and report text. In this research, the writer focused at the procedure text in the junior high school level. Curriculum 2013 points out those students in junior high school should understand, develop, and produce written conceptual meaning based on the social function and the language element of a simple procedure text which taught in ninth grade. Unfortunately, based on the writer’s experience, the reality does not show the education minister’s expectation where many students still confuse about what exactly procedure text is and how to write down the procedure text in English. Before doing the research, the writer was doing observation in MTs. Darus Sholochin Malang, the English teacher, said that the ninth grade students had several difficulties in writing procedure text. One of the difficulty was some of the sudents did not understand about what the procedure text is. Therefore, the writer was focus to teach how to write the procedure text.
To write a good procedure text, the students must be understand the definition of the procedure text. According to Wardhana & Arini (2019:53), procedure text is a text which explains the way to do or to make something
through a series of actions or steps. It means that procedure text is a text that describes how learners make or use something such as cooking food or arrange things through a sequence of actions or steps. The aim of teaching procedure text is learners are able to understand the conceptual meaning in a simple way. To make the students understand how to write procedure text, the writer using video demonstration while the teaching and learning process.
Video is one of the learning media that can be utilized in the learning process especially to learn English. Almost all students wherever they are had a more interesting when they know that they will learn using video (Hadijah:2016).
Also showed that video has many benefits for both teacher and students. It means the video is one of the best media because video has been known by all the learners; furthermore, video can help the teacher to transmit the material smoothly with the appropriate lessons. This learning media can give more detailed information about the lesson, the learners could watch the video carefully while understands the scene of the video so that they get the content of the video.
Learners are able to listen the language that produces from the video then they can write down or make free writing based on what they heard on a piece of paper.
When they feel confused about the material, they are able to pause the video and try to understand that material.
In short, the writer was used media to taught and explained the material that was procedure text. From previous studies, it is found that learning using video was provided prositive impacts on students’ writing procedure text.
Therefore in this research which conduct during the pandemic era, the writer
delivered the material to the students through a demonstration video with different way that was the students were ask to analyse the demonstration video and than write down the material that they got at that day to reach the learners’
understanding which relevant to the material. In this research the writer divide the material into three part that were definition of procedure text, identify the text structure and element of language. The writer wants to know whether teaching and learning procedure text is effective using video than using a textbook or only as explained. So, the writer extracts to conduct this research under the title “The Effectiveness of Using Video how to write procedure text during the Pandemic Era”.
1.2 Research Problem
Based on the explanation above the research problem in this study is formulated as follows: Do the students who are taught how to write a procedure text using video get better achievement?
1.3 Objective of the Study
This study aims to describes how significant the effectiveness of taught the students how to write a procedure text using video in ninth grade at MTs Darus Sholichin.
1.4 Hypothesis of the Study
A hypothesis is not just making guess. It is an uncertain explanation for an observation problem that can be answered by the result of the study. In line with
the research problem and the background study in the previous point, the writer formulates the hypothesis as follow:
1. Null Hypothesis (H0)
There is no significant difference in the students’ writing procedure text achievement by using the video learning technique.
2. Alternative Hypothesis (Ha)
There is a significant difference in the students’ writing procedure text achievement by using the video learning technique.
1.5 Research Assumption
The writer attempts to uncover a relationship between two variables must be thinking that the relationship between the variables exists and can be uncovered (Latief, 2019:4). In this case, based on the advantages of video as the learning media, the writer assumes that there are significant differences in students’ achievement that taught procedure text by using video in ninth grade.
1.6 Scope and Limitation of the Study
The scope of this study is directed at MTs. Darus Sholichin Malang at ninth grade focused on the students’ achievement in writing procedure text. The material is taken from instructional textbooks and other sources. This study has several limitations due to the situation and condition of collecting data. First, this research takes place in 2021, when the world pandemic known as Corona Virus 2019 has an impact on the teaching and learning process at all levels of education.
Second, the subject of this research was selected randomly by the English teacher with a limited amount. The researcher conducts this research still
effective and achievable to collect the data by utilizing the WhatsApp as the platform to keep the communication with the students.
1.7 Significance of the Study
The study is expected to be beneficial for:
1. English teachers in MTs Darus Sholichin; the teacher could deliver their materials, especially in procedure text carefully or make sure that the students understand about the material. in other word, the teacher should explains each component of procedure text clearly to make the students understand even though in the online class.
2. Reader; the writer hopes that the finding of this study can be benefical knowledge as well as wothwhile information regarding the efficient way in teaching procedure text.
1.8 Definitions of Key Term
The definitions of this study are to avoid misunderstandings about the study that need to be explained more. In general, students’ achievement has several factors including students’ interaction with other people such as with their friends, teachers, parents, and their personal factors (Bertolini, 2017). Students’
achievement of writing skill is the measurement of the amount of academic content that students learn in a given time frame. There are two terms which are used several time in this study, and those need to be defined:
Procedure text is material that is given in the ninth grade of junior high school. Jupri (Mataram, 2018) pointed out that students of
English Foreign Language must be produce writing competence such as procedure text.
Demonstration video refers to the lerning media to make the students understand the material. In this chapter, the learners are expected to understand clearly the material and they can make their own procedure text. The last, students have a posttest which was compared to each other.
CHAPTER V
CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS
In this chapter, there are conclusions of the whole chapters and the suggestion from this study will be discussed.
5.1 Conclusions
Using demonstration video to taught the students especially during pandemic era was great activity. Students can understand the material very well.
In this research, quasi experimental research was used and supported by sixty students from MTs Darus Sholichin Malang as the participants. The independent t-test from SPSS 20 was used to calculate the mean score of the posttest result.
The experimental group had higher mean score that was 82.13 while control group was 77.06. The data result calculated in SPSS presented that sig. (2-tiled) was 0.000. It meant that p < 0.05. from that result H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. Then, it can be assumed that using video to teach procedure text is effective toward ninth grade students of MTs. Darus Sholichin .
5.2 Suggestions
The researcher would mention some suggestion as follow:
5.2.1 Suggestion for Teacher
English teachers suggested using video as a learning media since many researchers have positive final results from this experiment, especially in this era where online learning is carried out. Teachers should motivate students to increase
their writing procedure text using video to ensure the learning process is still effective although in the remote learning process.
5.2.2 Suggestion for Further Researcher
The result of this research proved that video is one of the learning media which successful for learning procedure text as writing. Therefore, a better improvement is more needed. In the other words, this research can be an improvement in a different subject, material, ideas, as well as the design, provide more various contributions in a different perspective.
