eTable 2 Rubric to Determine Drug-Resistant Epilepsy Definition
Diagnosis of Drug-resistant Epilepsy
Subcategories
Yes 1) Drug-resistant epilepsy (>1 seizure* in prior year and failure of 2 ASMs),
* seizures due to medication non-adherence were not counted; status epilepticus was counted as seizures BUT only outpatient ASMs were counted towards drug- resistant epilepsy diagnosis criteria
2) Drug-resistant epilepsy
plus
PNES or drug-resistant epilepsy plus alcohol-withdrawal seizuresNo 1) Epilepsy (defined by 2014 ILAE criteria) without failure of two antiseizure drugs**
** assessed by initiation of third ASM for epilepsy
or
by standard max dosesor
drug levels when available 2) Alternative Non-epilepsy Diagnosis (e.g. PNES, onlyalcohol withdrawal seizures)
3) Prior Drug-resistant Epilepsy, now seizure free for one year
4) No mention of seizures and not on ASMs
Missing 1) Insufficient data to confirm epilepsy diagnosis or total equipoise regarding drug-resistant epilepsy vs. PNES 2) Insufficient data to confirm two prior ASM failures 3) Insufficient data to confirm current seizure frequency
