of these is anew
species of the genus Siriellawhich
I take pleasure in associating with the President of theUnited States asamark
ofappreciation ofhisinterest inmarine biologicalresearch.There
isalsoanew
species of thegenusNeomysis,
but, since the material includes only female specimens, it seems best toawait further material beforecompletingthe description.

Rem-arks.
— Among
themany

closely allied to S. pacifica
Holmes.
Indeed femalesof thetwo
species are difficult, if not impossible, to distinguishfrom
one another, but males are readily separatedon
examination of the thirdand
fourth pleopods.Hansen
(1913) has given a full descriptionand
figures of S. pacifica.On comparing
this descriptionand
figures with those here given for 5". roosevelti, the following dififerences between thetwo forms emerge
:

as in S. pacifica.The most
easily observed character for distinguishing the females of thetwo
species is thenumber and
spacing of the spines on the outer margins of the proximal joint of the outer uropods. In 6".pacifica there are 14-15 spines, rather closely set,
whereas
in 5".roosevelti thereare only 8-9spines
somewhat
distantlyspaced so that, although fewer innumber,
they occupy about asmuch
of themargin
as they do in S. pacifica.S. pacifica
and
5". roosevelti agree with each otherand
dififerfrom
all other species of the genus with the exception of S.
anomala
Hansen,
in having hath rami of both the third and fourth pleopods6

of the male terminating in modified setae.
They
can both be dis- tinguishedfrom
5". auonialaby
the antennal scalewhich
in the latter species is of very specialand
peculiar shape in the male.S. pacifica is
known from
the Pacific coast of Californiaand
is, in point of geographical distribution, the nearest neighbor of S.rooscvelti.

pseudomacropsis except that perhaps the rostral plate ismore produced
in relation to the antero- lateral spines of the carapace.The

pseudomacropsis inthat thelateral margins are closely set with spinesand
the shape islingular.Male
specimens will beawaited with interest so that a full descriptionmay
