Data Supplement, Table 1: Comparison of subjects who completed versus subjects who did not complete study
Subject characteristics Completed protocol mean ± SD
Did not complete protocol mean ± SD
P value
Age 60.1 ± 6.2 51.4 ± 7.9 0.027
FIM score 5.4 ± 0.64 5.7 ± 0.76 0.441
MMSE score 28.6 ± 0.98 29.4 ± 0.89 0.165
Initial SMWT (M) 164.2 ± 147.6 215.4 ± 96.7 0.4574
Initial BBT score 34.3 ± 8.9 44.3 ± 3.55 0.0174*
Abbreviations used are as follows: BBT = Berg balance test; FIM = Functional Independence Measure;
MMSE = Mini Mental Status Exam; SD= standard deviation; SMWT = Six Minute Walk Test. A Mann- Whitney test was used for comparison of age, FIM and MMSE scores and an independent t-test was used for comparison of SMWT and BBT scores. P< 0.05 was the criteria for significance. * indicates a significant difference.
Data Supplement, Table 2: Trip Correlations in Survivors of Stroke

P value 0.0010 0.0189 0.0024 0.0010
Abbreviations used are as follows: BBT = Berg balance test; CI = confidence interval; RNLI =
Reintegration to Normal Living Index, SF-36-V2-PF = Short Form Quality of life Measure-36, version 2, Physical Functioning domain; SMWT = Six Minute Walk Test. Spearman correlations were performed using trip data (trips/week) as one variable and clinical outcome data as the other variable. Trips were matched for each SS subject with their respective SMWT, BBT, SF-36 PF and RNLI data for each week of the study that was available (i.e. if data was missing for any week, then that week was not included in the analysis).” P< 0.05 was the criteria for significance.
