Therefore, the research focus topic at UI of the Faculty of Engineering is defined as. There are also two graduate programs including a master's and a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering for the Master's and Doctoral Program. The department was established together with the beginning of the Universitas Indonesia Faculty of Engineering on November 27, 1964 at the Salemba campus, Jakarta.
Currently, there are two study programs in the department, which are: Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. To conduct research and research-based education for the development of science and technology in the field of mechanical engineering. The mechanical engineering degree program also received the highest academic accreditation score by the National Board of Accreditation in 2005.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering gained international recognition and accreditation from the ASEAN University Network (AUN) in 2008 for Mechanical Engineering and in 2016 for Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. Since August 2007, the mechanical engineering department has received ISO for the quality management system in the Mechanical Engineering Study Program. In 2011, the Department of Mechanical Engineering once again received ISO for its quality management system.
In the Department of Mechanical Engineering, several main laboratories have been developed to support teaching and research activities.

The Department of Metallurgical Engineering was originally established as a study program within the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia in 1965. Due to the lack of qualified lecturers and infrastructure, only 25 students attended the first academic activity. Almost 6 years from 1969, the department stopped accepting new students and focused its activity on existing students.
In 1975, the department started accepting students again and produced its first 7 graduates that same year. As science and technology progress, especially for industries based on engineered materials, also taking into account the availability of resources within the department, the Department of Metallurgy has pooled its resources and considered the need to add "materials" to the name. The Department of Electrical Engineering consists of three undergraduate study programs, namely Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Computer Science.
There are two graduate programs, including a master's degree and a doctorate in electrical engineering for the master's and doctoral program.

The Sustainable Mobility Research Cluster is a multidisciplinary research area that includes expertise in transport, architecture and urban planning. Research activities focus on the development and sustainability of urban planning, the development of public transport rail infrastructure together with airports and seaports to improve the accessibility and efficiency of logistics. Sustainable Water Management Cluster The Sustainable Water Management Research Cluster is a research area dealing with the development of water infrastructure and water resource management.
The research activities focus on the development of water infrastructure and other infrastructure projects to produce clean water supply as well as projects to secure the infrastructure needed to support food security, flood control and waste treatment as an effort to improve the quality of life. The sustainable energy research cluster focuses on the infrastructure for energy management and development. This cluster carries out activities to improve the sustainability of energy supply, reduce energy subsidies and greenhouse gas emissions, and increase the use of renewable energy as an alternative energy through sustainable infrastructure projects.

Research Center for Biomedical Engineering
The International Symposium of Biomedical Engineering (ISBE) is an annual event that started in 2016, organized by the Research Center for Biomedical Engineering Universitas Indonesia (RCBE UI), in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Dentistry Universitas Indonesia, which also involved researchers from the technical and medical sciences. From ISBE 2018, 90 scientific works in the areas of biomaterials and medical devices, drug delivery and development, public health, hospital management and bioinformatics have been selected for publication in the AIP Conference Proceeding.
Research Center for Advanced Vehicle (RCAVe - MOLINA-UI)
The 3rd ISBE was held in August at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Jakarta, Indonesia with the main theme “Empowering Multidisciplinary Partnerships for the Healthcare Products and Services Industry”. What is the uniqueness of MOLINA-UI compared to electric vehicles developed by other institutions. In addition to focusing on the technical aspects for the appropriate development of city cars in urban areas, the MOLINA-UI team is also conducting a comprehensive study on the social aspect in Indonesian society and industry in terms of their level of adoption of electric vehicles.
That is why the team also involves researchers from various social faculties. Another strong point of MOLINA-UI is the development of an electric shuttle bus for internal use on the UI campus in Depok. This is the real application of a research project, where the impact of a green and environmentally friendly product can act as a role model and directly penetrate the academic society, especially students.
The electric bus developed by the team will soon replace the conventional yellow bus around the UI Campus in Depok. This is also in line with the role of Universitas Indonesia, which initiates the Green Metric World University Ranking. There is great hope that the success of using comfortable, safe, affordable and environmentally oriented electric buses can also be replicated for regular transport in Indonesia, such as buses in Trans-Jakarta.
Conversion Bus Electric Vehicle (EV) for 60 passengers and maximum engine power of 220 kW and battery capacity of 300 Ah;. City-city car Makara Electric Vehicle (MEV) 01 as the first generation of converted car using Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) electric motor developed by the team with a capacity of 25 kW;. City-city car Makara Electric Vehicle 02, the result of conversion from conventional car with induction AC motor with a capacity of 7.5 kW battery capacity of 102 Ah;.
Makara Makara Electric Urban Car (MEV) 03 as a hybrid car with 32 kW induction AC motor and 102 Ah battery capacity. Comprehensive study on the economy, law and socio-cultural aspects of the level of acceptance of the Indonesian society towards the use of electric vehicles as mass transportation.
