ENDNOTES

PNA, 1955]

It is a curved fold connecting the Arcus palatoglossus with the Arcus palatopharyngeus, always containing lymphoid tissue and forming the upper border of the Fossa supratonsillaris. Posterior and lateral [from the Plice triangularis] lies a depression, the Sinus tonsillaris, which is deep in the fetus and from the bottom of which the pharyngeal tonsil emerges. Depending on the size and extent of adenoid proliferation, the following different possibilities may occur: 1.

The tonsil stands out from the rest of the sinus as a sharply defined elevation and above it lies the Fossa. The Plica triangularis lies flat over the lower part of the tonsil and merges with it, but without losing its sharp outline. Lymph nodes can be formed on the free surface of the Plica triangularis and in extreme cases their demarcation from the tonsil is lost.

The arcuate fold connecting the Arcus palatoglossus to the Arcus palatopharyngeus and always containing lymphoid tissue was not considered part of the tonsil. In my opinion, the Bursa pharynx should be related to the arches of the posterior pharyngeal wall caused by the Mm. When viewed from the posterior side, the pharynx shows three ridge-like prominences in the region of their attachments.

The middle of these grooves leads to the Bursa pharynx; therefore, Merkel easily interpreted the bursa as a medial fissure of the tonsil. Merkel, in his Topographic Anatomy (Vol. I, p. 416), after Tourtual, distinguishes between the Recessus infundibuliformis [Rosenmulleri] and the lateral groove of the pharynx leading to it; he refers to the latter together with Tourtual as Sinus faucium lateralis. The names provided have not been changed, but their position in the list is considered changed.

This alternative term for the “Ventriculus” is inserted here, as in the B.N.A., because the use of the adjective “Ventricularis” would be misleading and the adjective “Gastricus” has long been in common use for this reason. This term has been in common use since the introduction of radiographs and the adoption of the normal practice of using the upright position when photographing the barium-filled stomach. Areae gastricae are elevations of the mucous membrane of the stomach corresponding to groups of glands that occur mainly in the Etat mamelonné but also in other conditions.

BNA, 1895]

In adults, the notch at the lower edge of the liver is occupied by the Ligamentum teres. There is a sphincter at the lower end of the Ductus choledochus and another at the Ampulla. BNA, 1895] This term designates the narrow groove that ascends from the Atrium between the Agger nasi and the roof of the nasal cavity.

BNA, 1895] The common nasal passage is the part of the nasal cavity between the conch and the nasal septum. Cellulae anteriores, mediae and posteriors are terms that indicate the smaller parts of the “Sinus ethmoidales”. Frankel [Anatomie der Sinnesorgane, Leipzig, 1887] discusses the historical transformation of the names with regard to glottis and vocal cords.

This corresponds to the part of the larynx below the Rima glottis and constitutes the third subdivision of the larynx. This term refers to the ridge seen through the bronchoscope and corresponds to the bifurcation of the trachea. The interlobar surfaces of the lungs are buried in the depths of the oblique and horizontal fissures.

These are continued in a longitudinal ridge on the posterior wall of the latter: the Crista urethralis. The Crista urethralis extends from the Uvula vesicae to the lower prostatic parts of the urethra and the Colliculus seminalis blends with the Crista as a local enlargement. Definitions of these parts of the prostate [Lobi dexter, sinister et medius] are the subject of much controversy.

At the neck of the bladder it is continuous with the striated muscle surrounding the membranous urethra. The structure of the corpus spongiosum is the same as the structure of the corpora cavernosa. PNA, 1955] The alternative Bulbus corporis spongiosi is considered more suitable by a minority of the committee.

The longitudinal axis of the ovary is almost parallel to the axis of the body. The Plica umbilicalis mediana is raised by the remnant of the urachus as it ascends outside the abdomen towards the navel.
