Definition of Semester Credit Hour
On a weekly basis, students should expect to spend at least two hours outside the classroom studying and completing assignments for each hour spent in the classroom (three hours per week outside the classroom for each classroom hour for art studios); which is a minimum of 45 hours of total teaching time per credit hour for the term. Students taking an online course should also expect to spend about 45 hours of total instructional time per credit hour in a term; the same time as a traditional, on-campus course.

The program is open to qualified students with a Bachelor of Science degree in an ABET-accredited engineering program. A technical elective in Ceramic Engineering is any graduate-level course in the School of Engineering, except CEMS 519.
Electrical Engineering
Level courses in chemistry, physics, or mathematics may be used as technical electives with written approval from the thesis advisory committee. Up to two graduate-level courses offered in the School of Engineering, Chemistry and Physics, may also be used as engineering electives with written approval of the student's advisor and the thesis committee.

Designed for graduate students to work with faculty outside the School of Art and Design. The studio work is supported by a written thesis report containing a detailed statement of the work, a technical documentation of the materials and processes used, and 20 slides of the thesis work.
