The Department of Homeland Security requires Alfred University to verify that a student intending to study in the United States on an F-1 or J-1 visa submits financial evidence documenting sufficient funds for their student career. Upon receipt of the enrollment deposit, Alfred University will prepare an I-20 that will be mailed to your mailing address listed on the application, or digitally if permitted by federal mandate.

Continuing students will be charged $500 to cancel their housing contract for off-campus moves after June 1, or $500 plus a prorated amount of room rent after the start of the semester. The prorated amount is based on the number of calendar weeks in the semester that have elapsed.

If a student with a signed contract withdraws from the University before the start of the semester, no breakage fee is assessed. If the withdrawal is after the semester has started, the fee is a percentage of the room rent proportionally based on the point of withdrawal within the semester.

Definition of Semester Credit Hour

On a weekly basis, students should expect to spend at least two hours outside the classroom studying and completing assignments for each hour spent in the classroom (three hours per week outside the classroom for each classroom hour for art studios); which is a minimum of 45 hours of total teaching time per credit hour for the term. Students taking an online course should also expect to spend about 45 hours of total instructional time per credit hour in a term; the same time as a traditional, on-campus course.

Any student registering as an auditor in a class should consult with the instructor to determine the level of participation the instructor expects from an auditor. The MBA program is designed so that full-time students who have met the foundation requirements can complete the 31 credits of graduate coursework in one academic year. Full-time students who must complete undergraduate foundation courses will require up to 49 credits (18 credits of foundations + 31 graduate MBA credits), depending on their undergraduate preparation.

MBA Accounting Track

The core graduate courses for the MBA - Accounting Track are identical to those required for the MBA - Business Administration Track. Students in the MBA-Accounting Track select one open graduate elective to complete their required coursework.

Biomaterials Engineering

Admission to the program is based on the applicant's previous academic record, work experience, potential for growth and the availability of space in the program. Admission may be contingent upon taking foundational undergraduate courses to ensure success in the curriculum.

Ceramic Engineering

The program is open to qualified students with a Bachelor of Science degree in an ABET-accredited engineering program. A technical elective in Ceramic Engineering is any graduate-level course in the School of Engineering, except CEMS 519.

Electrical Engineering

Level courses in chemistry, physics, or mathematics may be used as technical electives with written approval from the thesis advisory committee. Up to two graduate-level courses offered in the School of Engineering, Chemistry and Physics, may also be used as engineering electives with written approval of the student's advisor and the thesis committee.

Glass Science

Graduates of the program are well prepared for careers ranging from research and development to general plant operations. Acceptance is based on the candidate's previous academic record, work experience, growth potential, and the availability of space in the program.

Materials Science and Engineering

Some graduates of the program continue their education by pursuing doctoral degrees in MSE and related fields. The program is open to qualified students with Bachelor of Science degrees in engineering and the physical sciences.

This course includes an understanding of the characteristics of the type of disability and specific learning strategies and methods related to learning processes and human development. This course includes an understanding of the effects of the classroom environment on student behavior and the development of positive behavior supports, including problem and conflict resolution strategies.

External Programs

Historical, philosophical, and legal foundations provide context for the examination of specific instructional strategies related to the learning processes of students with learning disabilities. This course focuses on the process of identifying, assessing, and diagnosing students with disabilities, including selecting, managing, and analyzing test data to develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).

Public Administration

This course provides an overview of legal issues that arise in key areas of public administration. This course develops skills to design and implement human resource systems and analyzes the importance of human resources to organizational performance in the public sector and not-for-profit organizations.
