ANNUAL MADRIGAL DINNERS ANNOUNCED

pen your Christmas season with pageantry, festive Yuletide feasting and music. The 18th Annual IUPUI Madrigal Dinner in the great

LM~~IH&t dining hall at the Student Union Building again will begin the Christmas celebration at IUPUI. The Kings' Court Singers of North Central High School will create the program and all of Indianapolis is invited. Dates are Dec. 9, 10, and 11.

The singers in their rich authentic costumes in the ceremonial procession will usher in the Wassail Bowl, the litter bearer with the Boar's Head, and the

Flaming Plum Pudding.

As you dine in regal pomp and ceremony of Olde England, minstrels will wander about singing court songs of the yuletime. Following dinner, as in the old Elizabethan custom, lovely carols and madrigals are sung.

Doors open at 7 p.m. each night. The Lords and Ladies will be announced and seated before the grand opening procession at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person, including tax. Tickets may be purchased by mail or at the Union Building, Lobby Level. Additional information and group reservations are available from ext. 7685. For ticket sales call ext. 2171.

SCI FI AND SOCIETY

Two free movies, the classic 1933 version of "King Kong," and the admittedly awful film, "Lost Continent," will be shown back to back on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 10 and 11, on IUPUI campuses. The films are the second offering in the 1983-84 IUPUI Film Series, "Sci-fi and Society: The Aahs: (the good) and the Ughs: (the bad)."

Thursday showings begin at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at the Herron School of Art. Friday films begin at 7 p.m •• in Room 101 of the Lecture Hall. Dr. Edwin Casebeer, professor and chairman of the English Department, will be the master of ceremonies.

The film series is sponsored by the IUPUI student activity fee. Students, staff and faculty members and their guests are welcome to attend all or part of the program.

OPEN HOUSES ANNOUNCED

The staff of the School of Medicine Library is inviting the campus to meet the new Head Librarian, Dana McDonald, at an open house in her honor to be held Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the main reading room of the Library, Room 122 of the Medical Science Building. Those who wish to attend should RSVP by calling ext. 7182 before Friday, Nov. 11.

The Herron School of Art Annual Open House will be held Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. till noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. at 1701 North Pennsylvania Street, phone: 923-3651.

This is an opportunity for members of the faculty and staff and students to observe what happens during a regular school day at a professional school of art. Tours, counselors and an exhibit will be available

"THE RUNNER STUMBLES"

The shattering drama of a young priest who is tried for the mysterious murder of a nun whom he once loved is portrayed in "The Runner Stumbles," being produced by the IUPUI University Theater Nov. 11-12 and 18-19.

Based on tragic events that surrounded a Catholic Priest in 1911, the off-Broadway play was written in 1976. During testimony at his trial the priest-turned-factory worker relives his discontent with his church and the turmoil in his relationship with the exuberant young nun who loved him.

Productions are on the stage in the Mary Cable Building, 525 N. Blackford Street. Curtain time is 8 p.m ••

Playing the part of the priest, Father Divard, is Mark A. Thompson. Danielle Quisenberry is the nun, Sister Rita. The prosecutor is played by Eric Bryant and Father Divard's overprotective housekeeper, Erin Prindle, is played by Laura Burris. All are IUPUI students. Supporting roles are taken by Kerry Cotter, Jayson Gardner, Frank William Werner, Nancy Paulinski, and Eileen Dulen.

Directing is Dr. Edgar Webb, director of theater. Assistant director is Ginger Lynn Mosier, IUPUI student.

Tickets are $2.50 for students and senior citizens, $3.50 for faculty and staff members, and $5 for others. Group rates are available. For more information or reservations, call ext. 2094.

International Programs. Dr. Tessler has lived for extended periods in various Middle Eastern countries and has published extensively on a variety of topics regarding the Middle East.

Time Management Workshops Of fered--Stealers of time and productivity from

secretaries and their bosses are the focus of workshops being offered in several locations in the state by Dr. Tom Decoster, director of executive education at the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IUPUI. Indianapolis workshops are Nov. 15 for secretaries, Nov. 16 for executives and Nov. 17 for teams. They will be held in the executive education suite, Room 4095, B/S Building. All workshops are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is a fee and space is limited. For more information call ext. 3418.

Riley Poster Available--A poster has been designed as a fund raiser for the new addition to Riley Hospital. They are availale for $5 in the Cheer Guild Office, Room 403, Riley Hospital, or the Cheer Guild Gift Shop at University Hospital.

Retiring--Richard L. Miller, supervisor in Building Services at the 38th Street Campus for the past 13 years, retired Oct. 31. He plans some travel and fishing as well as part-time work. Helen E. Emmelman, principal accounting clerk with Computing Services and Continuing Studies for the past 10 years, will retire at the end of this month. She plans to travel and to do some volunteer work.

Patient Care Colloquium Scheduled--Carol A. Lindeman, RN, Ph.D., FAAN, dean of the School of Nursing, University of Oregon Health Sciences Center, will give the keynote address, "Another Look at Research in Nursing," at the 10th Annual Patient Care Research Colloquium to be held Nov. 22 at the I.U. School of

Nursing. The Colloquium is a joint effort of the I.U. Hospital Nursing Services and the School of Nursing. Registration is $5 for each participant and $2 for full-time students.

Stress Workshop Scheduled--Stress affects body and mind but is not always harmful. These and other facts about stress will be addressed in a stress management workshop offered by the IUPUI Counseling Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m Saturday (Nov. 12). Included will be lectures, a film, skill development

exercises and demonstration. There is no charge. For more information call ext. 2548.

I.U •• Women's Club Style Sh-0w and Luncheon--"Fall Fantasies with Fashions and Furs" will be the theme of the I. U. Women's Club of Indianapolis Annual style show and luncheon to be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 12) at the Meridian Hills Country club. Tickets are $15. The major fund raiser for the Women's Club Scholarship Fund, the goal is to better last year's $4800. Alumnae or former students may join the club for $7. Riley Memorial Association Annual Meeting--"New Directions for the New Riley"

will be the subject of a talk by Dr. Morris Green, physician-in-chief of the hospital and chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at the School of Medicine, at the annual luncheon meeting of the Riley Memorial Association to be held at noon, Nov. 16, at the Student Union Building. Donald C. Manlove, professor of education at I.U.-Bloomington, will interpret some of James Whitcomb Riley's poems.

Robot Sensing and Intelligence--The Medical Television Network operated by the Medical Educational Resources Program of the School of Medicine will broadcast a program received by satellite covering X-ray, thermal, ultrasonic, and E&M

sensing outside the visible spectrum this Monday (Nov. 7.) Part I (2 1/2 hours long) will be aired at 11 a.m., and Part ii (2 hours long) starts at 2 p.m ••

HONORS & ACCOLADES

Dr. J. Gregory McHone and Dr. Gary D. Rosenberg, both assistant professors of geology in the School of Science, organized and were chairmen of symposia at the meeting of the Geological Society of America in Indianapolis last week. The Green Sheet regrets that they were not included in last week's report.

Faye Peters, assistant professor of nursing and coordinator of continuing

education in nursing at IUPUI-Columbus, was honored at Richmond Virginia on Nov.

4 as the Outstanding Alumna of the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University.

Thomas Kippenbrock and Frederic May of the School of Nursing faculty, will participate in the American Assembly for Men in Nursing Programs in Chicago, Ill. on Dec. 9. Both will speak on "Attrition Among Men Students in a BSN Program.

Dr. Sue Bishop, associate professor in the I.U. School of Nursing, has been awarded the I.U. School of Education's 1982-83 Proffitt Disertation Award for Outstanding Achievement. Her dissertation was nominated by the Department of Educational Psychology. Dr. Bishop's name will be inscribed on a plaque on permanent display in the School of Education and will receive a stipend to be used for professional association memberships.

Dr. Marguerite Shepard, professor of OB/GYN, had an article entitled "How to Manage the Victim of Rape" published in the September issue of Contemporary OB/GYN.
