NEW HEALTH CARE PLANS: CHOOSE IN NOVEMBER OR TIME CHOOSES FOR YOU
S everal cures have been reconnnended for the headache or other malaise that may be induced in IUPUI employees who must choose a new health care plan by the end of November: Read the information mailed to you, attend one of many workshops set for different times in many loca'tions all over campus and ask questions there, or call the
"hotline" telephone info. rmation numbers 24 hours a day. You may choose any plan, but the deadline for making up your mind is Nov. 30. After that, you will automatically be
re-enrolled under your present carrier, which may not be the best plan for you in the future. G. Chris Keeley, director of Human Resources Administration, which is trying to make choosing a plan as easy as possible for everyone, suggests that you become familiar with each plan and each deductible level and then jot down any questions you have and get your answers in the following way:

French provincial furniture from the Krannert Wing of University Hospital and Union Building hotel room furniture and some office equipment will be sold at auction by IUPUI on Nov. 11. The auction begins with the provincial items promptly at 9 a.m., . in the old purchasing building, 630 West New York St, where the auction items can be seen beginning at 8 a.m. In the afternoon the auction moves a block east to 520 West New York Street in the "Pam Am mural
garage" for the auction of Union Building items such as portable
TVs, single and double beds, chairs, lamps, typewriters, nightstands and more. It begins

TEACHER OF YEAR KEYNOTES EDUCATION ALUMNI COUNCIL GATHERING
The past, present and future of education will be highlighted during a 20th Anniversary celebration on campus Nov. 11, sponsored by the Education Alumni Council of the School of Education. Sue Talbot, 1978 Indiana Teacher of the Year and current director of the Indiana Leadership in Educational Administration and Development (LEAD) Project, speaks at 6:30 p.m. during a dinner in University Place. President-elect of the IU Alumni Association, Talbot will discuss "Current Trends and Issues in Education." There is a 5:30 p.m. reception before dinner. During the day, visiting alumni can hear 10 education faculty members' brief methods course presentations in the E/S Building, with five
speaking from 3:30-4:15 p.m., and five from 4:15-5 p.m. The faculty members are Jacqueline Blackwell, Mary A. Gilchrist, Michael R. Cohen, J. Donald Arrington,

ADULTS FROM DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILES WELCOME TO FREE TWO-DAY WORKSHOP ON CAMPUS People who find intimacy difficult, who are threatened by personal criticism, who cannot finish projects, who lie when the truth would be as easy to tell, or who
suffer from low self-esteem, can discover skills to overcome these and other problems during a workshop for adult children of dysfunctional families, Nov. 14-15, noon-1 p.m. on campus. Professionals from the IUPUI Counseling Center will lead discussion that can help people better understand and "parent" themselves. The brown bag lunch workshops are from noon-1 p.m. There is no charge, but registration is required.

Turkey Hours--Libraries will have special hours during the Thanksgiving holidays this month. All libraries close at 5 p.m. Nov. 22 and remain closed Nov. 23. University Library and Science and Engineering Libraries are open Nov. 24-26 during regular hours.

"Gar-Ran-Teed"--Cajun food will be served next in the Advanced Food Services luncheons in the Hoosier Room. National Philanthropy Day
CAMPUS CELEBRATION TO FOCUS ON WHY AND HOW TO GIVE TIME AND SELF
IUPUI's celebration of National Philanthropy Day will be marked by a "teach-in" Nov. 13 in Bus/SPEA, room 2008. Opinions on issues dealing with philanthropy, volunteerism and student community service will be discussed informally. Facilitators will include IUPUI student leaders; Robert L. Payton, director of the Center on Philanthropy; Janet Huettnes from the Center and University Library; Dan McDonald, executive director of United Way, and Martha Bolyard of the Volunteer Action Center. How to volunteer, why volunteer and volunteering at IUPUI are among the topics. Sessions are from 1-2 p.m., 2:30-3:30 p.m., and 4-5 p.m. Students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend one or all sessions. CHEER GUILD WELCOMES YOUR HANDMADE CRAFTS Your finished craft items are needed to sell in the Cheer Guild's annual Poinsettia and Christmas Boutique. Paintings, woodworking pieces, wreaths, door decorations, candles, floral arrangements are welcome. Doll
clothes, pillows and stuffed toys are also needed. The Guild would like to have items no later than Nov. 27 in time for the Nov. 29-30 sale. They can be taken to the gift shop at University Hospital, the Cheer Guild Office at Riley Hospital or the Adult Education Center in Cavanaugh Hall.
OPEN RECEPTION WILL INTRODUCE "ENCYCLOPEDIA OF INDIANAPOLIS" The School of Liberal Arts and POLIS, a new IUPUI center for the study of Indianapolis, will host a public reception Nov. 7, 3:30-5 p.m. in University Place Conference Center, room 137, to introduce the "Encyclopedia of Indianapolis: The City's History, Culture and People."

Walmsley at Herron--Lithographer and professor of art at Florida State U. William
Walmsley will lecture on his work which is best known for its humor, imagery and color in a visiting lecture series at Herron Nov. 9 at 1:30 p.m. in the auditorium. His work, some of which has been exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art in New York and elsewhere, also will be presented. There is no charge and all are welcome.

SCHOOLS SET "SPIN-OFFS" DURING NATIONAL CONFERENCE
"The Urban University in the 21st Century," the 20th Anniversary symposium this week at the Conference Center, is bringing faculty and heads of cities and universities from all over the country to campus. As "spin-offs" from the formal program of speakers and panels, several schools are inviting students, alumni, faculty and staff to their own sessions Nov. 7 to learn how individual schools interact with the urban community.

CAMPUS UNITED WAY GOAL IS 75 PERCENT MET Cash and pledges are still coming in as we
reach about three-quarters of our goal to raise $200,000 for the 1989 United Way
Campaign. With several large departments still to report, organizers expect our goal to be met. Several departments met Chancellor Bepko's challenge to increase not only the amount given, but the numbers who give.
