PANEL SESSION AMONG CHANGES IN LEARNING RESOURCES SYMPOSIUM

C{

L

earning Resources has made many changes in preparing its annual learning symposium for faculty, scheduled this year for Friday, Feb. 21. Beginning at 9 a.m. in Lecture Hall 102, a panel of distinguished leaders representing higher education, public school education and business will lead off. They will be taking a broad look at education, society and vocations of the future and the implications for faculty.

Participants will be invited into the discussion. A noon luncheon in the Champions Room at the Sports Center will feature the presentation "Some Thoughts on Good Teaching" by this year's winner of the Edward C. Moore Outstanding Teaching Award, who has yet to be announced. Beginning at 1 p.m., several concurrent sessions designed for improving

teaching will be held at different locations and times on campus. Altogether, there will be 13 sessions from which faculty can choose. For a complete program schedule, or to make reservations, call Learning Resources, Ext. 7442.

Bob Martin, acting director of Administrative Affairs, whose job it was to find people who were willing to brave winter nasties to ring the bell for the

Salvation Army wants to thank the best bell ringers ever. More than 100 people stood on the Circle last December and raised $1,166.26 to help others. That's a new record for IUPUI and it netted us an award for our efforts.

TICKETS TO THE "DON" GREAT VALENTINE GIFTS

What better Valentine's Day gift than tickets to see the opera, "Don Giovanni," which is based on the story of Don Juan, whose "loving" reputation has been handed down for

centuries. The opera is the second part of the series, "Music for Indianapolis." It will be brought from IUB for a one-time-only show at Clowes Hall on the Butler campus on Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. Tickets for the opera range from $4 to $16 with discounts for

students, senior citizens and groups, and they are available at Clowes and all

Ticketmaster locations. (If you cannot make it that day, the opera opens at IUB on Feb.

8 and continues through Feb. 22. Call 812 335-7433.)

Also, you can dine before the Don by attending a pre-opera buffet at Clowes that is

$16.50 a person and includes the opera. Sponsors are the IU Women's Club of

Indianapolis, the Indianapolis Men's Club and the IU School of Music Alumni Association.

Make reservations before Feb. 6 by calling Karen Synder, 842-0518. And that's not all.

If you want to include knowledge in your Valentine gift, you can enroll in the Continuing Education course on "Don Giovanni" that is for two hours on Feb. 13 on the 38th St.

campus. Call Ext. 4501 for details and fees.

***

GIVE THE GIFT OF LIFE On Feb. 21 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. you can give blood in a drive

hosted by the IU Hospitals. Bloodmobiles from the Central Indiana Regional Blood Center will be at the emergency entrances of Riley and University Hospitals. Ellen Carr would

like you to call her at Ext. 8723 to make an appointment at least a week before.

With the help of two professors and their director, little folks who are in our Child Care Center are leaping in and learning at the natatorium each week. The children, ages 3-5, are not just splashing about, but are using specially prepared learning tools, like floating alphabet letters they must retrieve, to learn. The center's director, Beth Jeglum, says the children love it. Helping in the design of this pilot project to make learning particularly fun are Karen Teeguarden and Betty Evenbeck, both assistant

professors of physical education. For more, call the Child Care Center, Ext. 2546.-JG POSITIONS AVAILABLE
