Analysis Of Peanut Shells Activated Carbon In Drilling Mud Rheology Properties

Filtration loss is one of the prominent things in drilling fluid. It has to be controlled to prevent formation damage. As a part of rheology properties, drilling mud also as a lifting media of cutting and keep the well safe. Active carbon is the one of eco-friendly an organic additive which controlled filtration loss without affecting drilling fluid rheology properties. The peanut shells are the biomass waste that can be as activated carbon raw because it has high cellulose compound.

Through several processes (dehidration, carbonization, and physical activation) to make peanut shells is to know the impact of activated carbon in drilling mud after do the some experiments with mass variation (1 gr, 3 gr, and 5 gr) using filter press and Fann VG meter.

According to the result, it obtain filtrate loss 18.5 ml, 16 ml, and 15 ml from mass variation 1 gr, 3 gr, and 5 gr. Mud cake 0.22 cm; 0.18 cm; and 0.16 cm.

Plastic viscosity 4 cp, 4 cp, and 5 cp. Yield point 7 lbs/100ft2; 7 lbs/100ft2; and 8 lbs/100ft2. Gel strength 0.4 lbs/100ft2; 0.375 lbs/100ft2; and 0.35 lbs/100ft2.
