In this step, the researcher implemented the process of teaching and learning to read using small group discussion in the classroom. Through observation, the researcher was able to determine whether the small group discussion technique improved the students' reading comprehension or not. In this case of qualitative data, the researcher wanted to know if there was an improvement in students' reading comprehension through the use of small group discussion.

The researcher gave a pretest and the interview to the students before conducting a small group discussion. Then the researcher divided the students into several groups as a cycle 1 and the researcher gave a text to the students.

The students of SMP N 3 Boyolali had low performance in reading comprehension caused by the teacher and students themselves. The preliminary research showed that the students were not willing to participate during the teaching-learning process.
After the implementation, the researcher concluded that there was improvement in the students' achievement in reading ability and in the English teaching process in each cycle. Based on the observation, the interview sheet and the documentation it was found that the responses of the students in teaching and.
