In this step, the researcher implemented the process of teaching and learning to read using small group discussion in the classroom. Through observation, the researcher was able to determine whether the small group discussion technique improved the students' reading comprehension or not. From the implementation of small group discussions, the researcher hoped that it can improve students' reading comprehension. The researcher gave a pretest and the interview to the students before conducting a small group discussion. When the researcher found that the students had understood the lesson, the researcher asked the students to say hamdalah together. Then the researcher divided the students into several groups as a cycle 1 and the researcher gave a text to the students.

Since the purpose of this research is to find out the improvement of students' reading comprehension by using small group discussions with the ninth students of SMP N 3 Boyolali in Academic Year, it can be concluded based on the result of observation, interview and the implementation of small group discussion as follows. The students of SMP N 3 Boyolali had low performance in reading comprehension caused by the teacher and students themselves. The preliminary research showed that the students were not willing to participate during the teaching-learning process.
After the implementation, the researcher concluded that there was improvement in the students' achievement in reading ability and in the English teaching process in each cycle. Based on the observation, the interview sheet and the documentation it was found that the responses of the students in teaching and.
