Judul Skripsi: Improving The Students' Listening Comprehension Through English News Program (A Classroom Action Research at The Second Grade of SMA Negeri 9 Makassar). Improving Students' Listening Comprehension through English News Program (A Classroom Action Research at The Second Grade of SMA Negeri 9 Makassar), under the thesis of English Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Education and Training, Makassar Muhammadiyah University, guided by Hj. This research aimed to find out the improvement of students' listening comprehension skills in the form of English news program in the second grade students of SMA Negeri 9 Makassar.

The researcher's findings indicated that the English News program could improve students' listening skills, especially critical and descriptive listening. It could be concluded that the improvement of students' ability to listen to the material English news program in Class XII MIA 7 of SMA Negeri 9 Makassar of students significantly improved, with students' score on content in Cycle II being higher than in cycle I. And the score organization of the students in cycle II was greater than the student score of the test in cycle I.

Thus, the student's test result from Cycle I through Cycle II received the score target (75), classified as a successful achievement in the student's listening comprehension. Ilmiah S.Pd, M.Pd who gave their valuable time and guidance to complete this thesis.

The materials for teaching listening comprehension must suit the students' needs and wishes. According to a diagnostic test, the students' listening skills in SMANegeri 9 Makassar, especially in the second grade, the students' performance in listening skills is low, only 54. As long as some approaches had been applied to improve students' listening skills in school, but those approaches are still weak, with others words, these approaches are not significant for improving students' listening comprehension performance.

Based on the above problems, the study plans to conduct a study entitled 'Improving students' listening comprehension through English. How is the improvement of the students' listening comprehension through the English news program in the second grade of SMA Negeri 9 Makassar?". The improvement of the students' listening comprehension through the English news program in the second grade of SMA Negeri 9 Makassar.

The results of the study are expected to be useful for improving students' listening comprehension and become an alternative technique for English subject researchers in general and especially for those who teach English to the second grade students of SMA Negeri 9 Makassar. The scope of the research is limited to the effectiveness of the English News Program to improve students' critical and descriptive listening.

By emphasizing the role of comprehensible input, research on second language acquisition has given great importance. Because students need to learn to use more than just knowledge of language structure. This is the listener's response, and the quality of appreciative listening depends largely on three factors, namely: . a).

Presentation includes many factors, i.e.: medium, style, personality of the lecturer. Sometimes it is our perception of the presentation that most influences our satisfaction or dissatisfaction with listening. b). Paying attention to the sound structure of the language will lead to more skillful discriminative listening.

Shared experiences: The book says that news depends on the "shared experiences" of the audience. To get the main idea in a slightly more detailed way, there are at least two approaches; the one we choose will depend on the content of the story.

At the end of each cycle, a test was administered to measure the students' progress. Observation sheet intended to find out the data of the students about their attendance and activity in the teaching-learning process.

Procedure of Collecting Data

Finding the average score of the students in the first cycle and the second cycle of the listening test using this formula. In this chapter, the finding of the cover of the research is specifically presented with a description of the improvement of students' listening comprehension. In order to clearly see the improvement in the student's listening comprehension, the following table is presented.

Therefore, the student's listening comprehension is improved and the goal can be achieved. The result of the student's observation in the teaching and learning process significantly improved with the English News Program in improving the student's listening comprehension. It shows that using English news program can motivate students. activity in the teaching and learning process.

The use of English news program in the first year of SMA Negeri 9 Makassar can improve students' listening comprehension. In the second cycle, the percentage of students' listening comprehension was 19 students (60%) scored very well. The above result also proves that the use of English news program could improve the students.

In the first cycle, the students' answers are low, but in the second cycle, the students' answers are classified as good. Based on the results of the research, the researcher found that the students . participation in each meeting of the two cycles improves normally. Subsequently, the researcher considered the curriculum that could be adapted to significantly improve student activity in . teaching and learning process in the next cycle.

In the analysis of the students' performance, the researcher found that the average score of students' listening comprehension through English news program was improved. The improvement of students' listening comprehension through English news program in second grade in SMA Negeri 9 Makassar was significantly improved.
