This thesis research focused on the students' ability to write narrative texts in the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Trimurjo in the academic year 2017/2018. Furthermore, the researcher used the Donal Ary model, namely familiarizing and organizing, encoding and reducing, interpreting and representing the data. The result of research data showed that when writing narrative text, subject matter was used in the text.

Almighty, let us constantly praise him for all abundant blessing, especially the precious health to the researcher that she could do this bachelor's thesis. This bachelor's thesis is entitled "An analysis of the students' ability to write narrative text in eighth grade in SMPN 1 Trimurjo in the academic year 2017/2018". There were many helpful people involved in the execution of this bachelor's thesis, which the researcher could not mention one by one.

In this research, the researcher focuses only on the "analysis of the ability to write a narrative text of students in the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Trimurjo during the academic year. To analyze the ability of students in writing a narrative text in the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Trimurje in the academic year. Prior Research

In this review, the writer has given previous studies that have ever been conducted in SMA Muhammadiyah Pekalongan. This research under the title is “Students' Errors in Using Punctuation in Narrative Text Writing by Tenth Graders of SMA Muhammadiyah Pekalongan”. This study was conducted keeping in mind that the use of punctuation plays an important role in writing a narrative text.

Based on the result of the research, it showed that there was the use of punctuation errors on the narrative text due to lack of knowledge about punctuation. The students often made mistakes in the use of punctuation because they were careful in the writing process. It is suggested to know more how important it is to use punctuation on the narrative text in teaching especially in writing.

A piece of text has cohesion when all the ideas are organized and flow smoothly and logically from one to the next. It functions to tell what is being told to readers as a product of writing.22.

The story should be personal and should show the writer's feelings and reactions to the events. Narrative is a form of writing used to connect a story of actions or events. The structure of a narrative text is the framework that holds the story together and gives it shape.

Plot is where the problems in the story develop to be solved by the characters.42. The solution describes the solution to the problem up to complications and gives the end of the story. 43.

RESEARCH METHOD

Data Source

This research was conducted at SMPN 1 Trimurjo to collect accurate data of this research, the researcher also needed an accurate source of data. The primary research source (information directly from the teacher or the research situation) is the interview and documentation. Secondary research source (secondhand accounts of people or situations written by others) is anything related to this study that can support this research.

Books consist of discussion of topics while history books, encyclopedia articles and. The researcher investigated some questions and analyzed their result of writing the narrative text in the primary source.

Data collection Technique

Documentation is an instrument for collecting some information in the form of a written source or document, such as a book, encyclopedia, diary, etc. The researcher recorded the name of the students in the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Trimurjo and took information about the description of the research. area of ​​included profiles SMPN 1 Trimurjo.

Data Analysis Technique

In the first step of analyzing, the researcher reads through all the data to become familiar with the data. Then the researcher organized or arranged the data into different types depending on the sources of information. This is the core of qualitative analysis and includes the identification of categories and themes and their refinement.

In this phase, the researcher classified the data according to the categories of data sources. After all the data had been coded and classified, the researcher could reduce the data that was not related to the current study. It involves reflecting the words and actions of the research participant and then generalizing the data to provide interpretation.

After making interpretation, the researcher represented the result in the form of a table, figure, diagram or story.
