1MB is aware of the need for youth ministry and the responsibility of young people to the gospel. 1MB should do a comprehensive assessment of the state of global youth ministry facilitated by 1MB. Youth Ministry International (YMI)'s strategic plan to train young local leaders overseas is becoming a reality through the establishment of Centers for Youth Ministry (CYM) on foreign soil.

Proposed Objectives

At this time, Youth Pastoral Centers are being developed in different phases in Nairobi, Kyiv, Mexico and Singapore. Those who wish to be considered as candidates for a center in their country regularly contact the YMI offices. The International Center for Youth Ministry (CYM), assembled under the auspices of a higher education institution, serves as an arm of the school for comprehensive training and networking for those called to youth ministry as a life career.

Overall Functions

Program Distinctives

The disciplines of the arts and sciences are viewed and understood in their proper context. Each student is expected to successfully complete a comprehensive study program in Scripture that includes 15 general semester hours of Bible knowledge, 9 hours of systematic theology with a historical perspective and 6 hours of apologetics. The basic principle of "identify the culture, use the culture, to achieve the culture" is an axiom that is an integral part of classroom and field teaching.

While eschewing worldly trends, CYM's youth ministry training emphasizes discipline in relation to today's teenager and his world. Thirty (30) semester hours) The comprehensive youth ministry academic program is built on a philosophical paradigm in response to the church's greatest needs and theological non-negotiables. Eleven (11) semester hours) Each youth ministry student is required to serve each semester at a designated Christian Service site under an approved supervisor.

They hold memberships in professional organizations such as Youth Ministry International, National Youth Leaders Network, Youth Ministry Educators, National Association of Professors of Christian Education, and Youth Ministry Executive Committee. A youth pastor candidate is accepted into the program when they meet strict admissions criteria after completing the appropriate prerequisite classes.

SCOPE

What would be some key components of your organization or strategy that differentiate you from these others. One of the recommendations presented to the IMB in Chapter 6 was to encourage Southern Baptist Seminaries to train students in cross-cultural youth ministry. The proposal consists of course descriptions of nine Youth and Mission courses, followed by sample degree offerings at all three levels consistent with the 2002 SBTS catalog.

Ideally, the Youth and Missions training program would be under the direction of a Youth and Missions Center. The center should be established to coordinate research in the field of Intercultural Youth Ministry, to interface with relevant religious and parish agencies, network with organizations and individuals focused on youth and missions, and direct the academic program for youth and missions at the Seminary . An examination of the development and application of philosophical paradigms and strategies for cross-cultural youth ministry.

This study suggests that youth ministry should play a key role in the world of mission in the twenty-first century. I argued that youth ministry and training for indigenous youth workers warranted a higher level of emphasis and priority from the 1MB, and I made a series of recommendations for the 1MB to address its shortcomings in the area of global youth ministry. The work of ReachOut, Youth Ministry International, Youth Builders and SonLife was analyzed and principles from the work of these organizations informed the evaluation of, and recommendations for, IMB youth work.
