Academic Distinction Additions, effective May 1984

That graduating with academic distinction be campus and program specific per enrollment, i.e., ten percent of each graduating class in each undergraduate program on each campus be selected for the honors.

That academic distinction be based on a minimum of three semesters for the A.S.N.

program and seven semesters for the B.S.N.

program. This would include all work (including summer sessions) except the final semester. By using a "minimum of," the policy would allow for individual campuses that want to include all work attempted.

That distinction be based on work completed for the A.S.N. or B.S.N. curriculum only as long as the cumulative GPA is a minimum of 2.0. Grade-point averages are computed on work completed at JU. Transfer hours will not be utilized in calculating grade-point averages.

That in case of ties, all ties will be included.

Admission to Baccalaureate Major for Graduates of Associate and Diploma Nursing Program

Addition at end of paragraph two in right column, effective February 1984.

Students who challenge courses and earn an A grade, as determined by the faculty responsible for teaching the course, will be awarded the A grade.

page 25 Readmission

Change heading from Readmission to Reinstatement.

Replace last sentence of section with tile following, effective August 1984

A student who has been dismissed from the School of Nursing for academic failure may be considered for reinstatement based upon criteria relative to the academic needs of the student. These criteria will be based upon faculty recommendation at the time of dismissal. Reinstatement is not guaranteed.

A student will be reinstated only one time. A reinstated student will be dismissed from the School of Nursing upon failure of one additional course.

Add section entitled Challenge Examination, effective January 1984.

Challenge examinations may not be used as a substitute for repeating any nursing course.

Withdrawals Replace existing copy, effective August 1984.

Students may withdraw from a course before midterm of that course. Withdrawal after midterm means the grade at that time is registered, (W if passing or F if not passing).

More than three academic withdrawals in a semester or more than four in the upper division major is considered a lack of progress toward the degree.·

If a student withdraws from a didactic course that requires an automatic withdrawal from a concurrent clinical course, it will be

considered as one withdrawal.
