x ABSTRACT

This study focuses on analysing Joe Goldberg’s possessive and abusive behavior in the series You. The purpose of this research is to describe Joe’s possessive behavior towards his girlfriend, Beck and his abusive behavior. The study is a qualitative study. The data source for this study is the script of the You Series. To analyze the data, the writer used Walker’s theory on possessive behavior, Meloy’s theory on stalker, Brown’s theory on jealousy, Doron et al’s theory on obsession, and Walker’s theory on abusive behavior. Based on the data collected, it was found that Joe’s possessive behavior is portrayed through his actions as being a stalker, having jealous feelings, and obsessional personality. In the series, Joe stalked Beck and Peach physically, and cyberstalked Beck, Benji and Peach. Joe’s jealousy towards Benji and Peach is both simple and complex. Joe is also having an obsessional personality, in which he has imaginative thoughts and fantasies about Beck. Moreover, Joe is also abusive. He attacks Beck, Benji and Peach verbally and physically. Joe verbally attacks the victims, which affect them psychologically, as well as physically attacks the victims so that they get injured physically.

Penelitian ini berfokus pada analisis perilaku posesif dan kasar Joe Goldberg dalam serial You. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan perilaku posesif Joe terhadap pacarnya, Beck dan perilaku kasarnya. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah naskah You Series. Untuk menganalisis data, penulis menggunakan teori Walker tentang perilaku posesif, teori Meloy tentang penguntit, teori Brown tentang kecemburuan, teori Doron et al tentang obsesi, dan teori Walker tentang perilaku kasar. Berdasarkan data yang dikumpulkan, ditemukan bahwa perilaku posesif Joe digambarkan melalui tindakannya sebagai penguntit, memiliki perasaan cemburu, dan kepribadian obsesif. Dalam serial tersebut, Joe menguntit Beck dan Peach secara fisik, dan mengintai Beck, Benji, dan Peach di dunia maya. Kecemburuan Joe terhadap Benji dan Peach sederhana dan kompleks. Joe juga memiliki kepribadian obsesif, yaitu bahwa ia memiliki pemikiran imajinatif dan fantasi tentang Beck. Selain itu, Joe juga kasar. Dia menyerang Beck, Benji dan Peach secara verbal dan fisik. Joe menyerang para korban secara verbal, yang mempengaruhi mereka secara psikologis, serta secara fisik menyerang para korban sehingga mereka terluka secara fisik.
