This research deals with the analysis of the language attitude of teenagers towards the language variation alay on Facebook. In writing this research titled "A teenager's language attitude towards the linguistic variations of the Alay language on Facebook" for the purpose of submission in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the degree of Sarjana Pendidikan in the Department of English, the researcher encountered so many obstacles and certainly no help. for many people, especially the following people, it may be impossible for me to finish it.

Background of the Study

But for the users of Alay, they can give a positive attitude towards linguistic variation of Alay. They assume that the language variation of Alay can also be their identity as a means of communication.

The Scope and Limitation

The use of language variations by Alay often confuses people who are not members of the Alay community.

The Formulation of the Problem

The Significance of the Study

Language Variation

Social dialect means the linguistic variation that relates to social status and class (Chaer & Agustina, 1995:84). Temporal dialect means the linguistic variety used by a particular social group at a particular time (Chaer & Agustina, 1995:84).

Defintion of Teenager

  • Cognitive and Language Development of Teenager
  • Advantages and Disadvantages of the Use of Alay Variation

In his opinion, language variation of Alay is a kind of password that applies only within the youth community. The use of Alay language Many end up using Alay language in oral and written communication of Alay language is the language of today's transvestites and young boys. The existence of Alay language is considered by young people as a means of communication in daily interaction.

However, unconscious language variation of Alay may threaten the existence of Indonesian language as a language of unity because it is more different from the rules of good and true language. It must be recognized that the emergence of a new language will naturally affect the development of the language world itself, whether it is a positive or negative influence, not least the language of Alay itself. Positive impact with the use of Alay language is the teenagers become more creative. The language of Alay can therefore be considered destructive of the Indonesian order if it was used in a formal situation as described above.

Because the Indonesian language is the official language of our country and also the identity of the nation. Another negative effect is that Alay's language variation can disturb anyone who reads and hears the words it refers to. According to Mastuti, that word formation of the Alay language also included the word formation of Bahasa Gaul. Adding phoneme is a word formation of Alay language by adding phoneme at the beginning, middle and end of the word.

The combination of letters and numbers is a set of Alay languages that uses numbers instead of letters (Fanayun, 2010: 64).

Language Attitude

  • Types of Language Attitudes

Due to the strong association between language and community membership, the conceptualization of language attitudes is often extended to include attitudes towards speakers (Gonzaléz & Huguet, 2002; Lasagabaster, 2003). The definition of language attitudes was further stretched to include different behaviors and other related aspects (Fasold, 1984), because of the relevance that language attitudes have to the definition of speech communities, the explanation of language change, language retention and language shift, and applied concerns about language intergroup communication, language planning and education (van Hout & Knops, 1988: 1). Types of language attitudes Initially, a distinction should be made between types of language attitudes that either correspond to monolingual settings.

18 Throughout the history of language attitude research, various concepts for the categorization of language attitude have been formed. In the next section, two possible ways of distinguishing the types of linguistic relations will be presented. A different way of distinguishing different types of language relations was proposed by social psychologists Gardner and Lambert (1972: 14).

They identified two types of language attitudes: instrumental-oriented language attitudes and integrative-oriented language attitudes. An integratively oriented language attitude is associated with higher achievement in learning a foreign or second language than an instrumentally oriented language attitude (Gardner 1985).

Language Choice

They underestimate the Alay variety and consider the variety to have a low prestige or status, so it is not correct to use the variety. This may be because they no longer have the linguistic loyalty and pride towards the variety. Thus, former users of the Alay variety gradually reduce their use of the variety and write in a more standard style.

However, people living in a bilingual or multilingual country inevitably face more decision-making when choosing which language to use, since all the people speak more than one language. Consequently, domain analysis proposed by Joshua Fishman (1972) is crucial to a good understanding of the Flourishing Creativity &. Which language an individual chooses to use may depend on who the interlocutor is, and the situation in which the conversation takes place.
