Module objectives/intended learning outcomes
Students understand about the notion of time in rock formation; using paleontological data to describe the geology of an area HISTORY Students understand the relationship between the formation rock - fossils and stratigraphy; understands that the introduction of a layer of rock can be distinguished by characteristics / content of the fossil.
Students are able to determine the age and sedimentary environments based on the microfossils were found.
Content Provide knowledge about role of microfossils in geological /
biostratigraphy. Participants are required to know important genus in foraminifera (planktonic and benthic). Other microfossils given as another alternative that can be used in biostratigraphy analysis.
Student will have knowledge of microfossils include classification of living organisms, Its existence as fossil inside the sediment. Students will learn how to do fossil sampling, preparation and determination as well as data processing micropaleontology for determining the age of rocks; depositional environment and correlation.
The lectures give an overview of the following topics:
1. Introduction 2. Microfossil analysis 3. Foraminifera
4. Planktonic Foraminifera 5. Benthic Foraminifera 6. Large Foraminifera 7. Nano Plankton
8. Palynology 9. Ostracods 10. Radiolarian
11. Applied Micropaleontology Study and examination
