Estimated pulse wave velocity (ePWV) in this study was calculated using the equations published by the Reference Values for Arterial Stiffness Collaboration in 2010 (5), which illustrate how carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV) are affected by age and mean arterial blood pressure (MAP). The equation derived from the reference population in 2010 was used to calculate ePWV for subjects with cardiovascular risk factors in this study (equation 1) and the equation derived from the normal population in 2010 was used to calculate ePWV for subjects without risk factor and not smoking in this study (equation 2).
