NIHSS: National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score. Atrial fibrillation: by history of chronic or paroxysmal atrial fibrillation or diagnosed during hospitalization. Prior heart disease included chronic heart failure, prior myocardial infarction, angina pectoris or valve disease.
a. Models included age, gender, systolic blood pressure (SBP) on admission, reperfusion therapy, ischemic stroke severity (by NIHSS), ischemic stroke clinical subtype (by Oxfordshire classification), hospitalization ward, atrial fibrillation, diabetes mellitus, prior stroke, prior heart disease and use of statins on admission.
b. Information on 1-month mortality was available for 2797 (71%) participants. Model included age, SBP on admission, stroke severity and reperfusion therapy as covariates.
