ESPGHAN mission
ESPGHAN is a multi-professional organization whose aim is to promote the health of children with special attention to the gastrointestinal tract, liver and nutritional status, through knowledge creation, the dissemination of science based information, the promotion of best practice in the delivery of care and the provision of high quality education for paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition (PGHN) professionals in Europe and beyond.
Membership and Organisation Mission
To provide representation for all professionals involved in PGHN).
Strategy
To develop a more inclusive policy for membership for researchers, clinicians and allied health professionals involved in PGHN.
To offer attractive benefits of membership.
To actively promote a new generation of leaders in the Society.
To promote the values and strength of ESPGHAN within and outside Europe
support an efficient and democratic structure of the society which assures effective and transparent governance
To maintain an effective and efficient association management to support the activities of the Society.
To acquire and retain the financial resources necessary to sustain the Society and its initiatives.
To strengthen links with other organizations with similar goals such as UEG.
Actions
To develop and implement a long term business plan that articulates how the society intends to implement its strategy.
To provide modern communication tools both internally and externally with an improved website, newsletter, website, and potentially the use of social media.
To encourage, through the adoption of new membership criteria, membership for all professionals involved in PGHN, including clinicians without a strong research focus and non- clinical scientists.
To facilitate corresponding membership for those PGHN professionals working outside Europe.
To proactively increase the opportunities for trainees and AHP in all activities of the Society.
To enhance and implement the code of conduct with industry which takes account of current standards and legislation and encompasses all aspects of the Society.
To decide the venue of future annual conferences achieving an appropriate balance between financial and membership considerations.

Research and Science
Mission
To promote basic, translational and clinical science in PGHN.
To lobby for stronger support of research in PGHN.
Strategy
To further strengthen the scientific program at the annual general meeting.
To promote networking within the Society and enhance collaborative clinical research and multi-centre studies involving several investigators from across Europe.
To increase the presence of basic science.
Actions
To develop an agenda that prioritises research into PGHN conditions on the basis of the need for knowledge, the potential for remedial action, and societal impact.
To make the need for stronger support of research in PGHN heard and understood at the level of national and international decision makers, e.g. the European Parliament and the European Commission.
To develop measures that support collaborative clinical research and multi-centre studies.
To sustain working groups and special interest groups and other programmes resulting in the creation of efficient networks.
To create efficient and sustainable patient databases that support relevant research goals.
To develop synergies with UEG to increase the presence of basic science (e.g. workshops).
To sustain programmes of exchange within Europe and beyond (e.g. with NASPGHAN).
To stimulate research with the promotion of research prizes.
To help the creation of consortia for research framework programs.
Education Mission
To offer the highest standards of education to members and all professionals involved in PGHN.
Strategy
To provide an educational track in the programmes of the annual conferences.
To further develop educational meetings (e.g. ESPGHAN schools and monothematic initiatives).
To maintain and update the educational curriculum.
To promote and support the preparation of quality guidelines.
To develop and maintain e-learning programmes.
To promote CME accreditation of ESPGHAN activities.
Actions
To create a coordinated scheme for CME credits through JPGN, e-learning, schools.
To diffuse and favour the implementation of a syllabus for training in PGHN throughout Europe.
To create a curriculum for endoscopy training.
To enlarge the number of members involved in ESPGHAN educational activities, including trainee members and AHP (bank of teachers).

Public Affairs Mission
To support and defend the health and interests of children, with a special emphasis on gastrointestinal, liver and nutritional health.
To serve as a source of competent advice for Institutions and International agencies.
Strategy
To develop partnerships with Institutions and International agencies that will ensure the interest of children are recognized and appropriately acted upon.
To develop partnerships with other scientific societies who either share or need to be aware of the interests of children in their work
Actions
To develop an advocacy policy together with UEG.
To work with FISPGHAN to extend the advocacy policy at a global level, e.g. by establishing a working relationship with WHO.
To further develop the forum of National Societies of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition and to formalize its presence in the Society to improve and homogenize education and care across European Countries.
To become a partner for the EU and other European /International Institutions to influence decision making in the matter of PGHN.
To strengthen a proactive involvement of ESPGHAN in EU platforms such as the Platform for Diet, Physical Activity and Health.
To increase cooperation with patient and parent organizations.
To consider the establishment of an ESPGHAN public affairs committee.
To maintain a proactive presence and involvement of ESPGHAN at the Codex Alimentarius Committee.
