Creativity and technology combine to keep graduates of the College of Business at the forefront of the global economy. But new topics are constantly woven into the texture of the course, he says. It is a given that technology and state-of-the-art equipment play an important role in engineering classrooms and laboratories.

In the spring, the School of Art and Design held workshops on solar energy and biodiesel in collaboration with the School of Engineering. Through the use of multi-layered video projections and sounds – or for that matter any creative work that requires an enclosed space – students will be physically placed into a simulated environment limited only by their imagination.”. Dean Lewis also cites a recent example of the interdisciplinary approach on campus that he feels is crucial.

The school is partnering with AU's College of Business to create an e-commerce site for AU's Cohen Center Gallery. If this isn't going to be the first e-commerce site in the country that showcases and sells high-quality graduate and faculty work from within the institution, it should be one of the first. Students will gain a wide range of exposure to most aspects of the professional gallery experience, including curatorial work, exhibition projects and sales,” he says.

I am very excited about what will happen over the next 10 years at the School of Art and Design. We will continue to be creative in our use of resources and facilities in Harder Hall and other departments on the Alfred University campus.

But most importantly, we will continually rethink our pedagogical strategies as we guide students toward successful and dynamic careers as multidisciplinary artists and leaders.” McGee told the new students and their parents during fall Orientation: “An Alfred liberal arts education involves more than just learning the scientific facts, economic policies or political structures or art forms of another culture; it's a process of developing critical skills and competencies that will help you live responsibly in a rapidly changing world, one where you may find yourself in a job 10 or 15 years from now that you never imagined ever." What skills, competencies, values, and knowledge should our General Education curriculum reinforce in this 21st century to prepare our students to be versatile thinkers, lifelong learners, and leaders in a global society That's the kind of question Dean McGee plans to explore with CLAS faculty in a series of conversations about general education next academic year.

In tandem with this series on what we teach (general education), McGee is developing a series of workshops on how we teach (pedagogy). These workshops, each led by a different CLAS faculty, will provide an important opportunity for faculty development, allowing faculty to share ideas and discuss teaching strategies across disciplines and programs. McGee, a historian of religion with a specialty in South Asian religions, reports that some of the great ideas she has introduced into her teaching have come from colleagues in biology and economics. These open discussions among colleagues are especially important as the faculty recruits new faculty members.

This year we have several new faculty members and next year we will have even more," says Dr. To help them adjust to AU, she started a new faculty orientation program and urged veteran faculty members to.
