Simon J. Atkinson and Mark R.

Kelley have ben elected to the Biomedical Research Committee.

Congratulations to Dr. Ariel Castro, who accepted an Assis- tant Scientist position in the Dept.

of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology effective May 1, 2001.

We just received notice that our USDE grant application for a GAANN Award (Graduate Assis- tance in Areas of National Need) will be funded with a start date of 7/1/01. This award will provide support for 4 students. Congratula- tions to Maureen Harrington and Mark Goebl on this accom- plishment, with thanks to Ed Harper for his guidance and input in the application process.

Joyce Hurley received an award from the National Headache Foundation for her application

"Interactions between calcium channels and serotonin recep- tors in migraine".

Rose Fife, M.D. has been named associate dean for research at IUSM.

The selection committee

focused on those faculty members with extensive and highly accom- plished careers in the university.

Howard was chosen because he is considered to be a "complete scholar," whose career of exem- plary contributions to his discipline and the university have distin- guished him from his colleagues.

His selection recognizes his long- standing, continuous commitment to excellence in each of the major areas of university work: research, teaching, and service.

The 2000 convocation marked the first year for the Chancellor's Professor awards, which honor extensive accomplish- ments by senior faculty who have been at IUPUI for at least 10 years. The three recipients of the 2000 award, including Peter Roach, were the first recipients of this award, making them mentors for colleagues and resources for faculty development, student learning and professional research and service.

Howard Edenberg was awarded Chancellor's Professor last week, Friday evening, 4/27 at the Honors Convocation.

Mr. Oun Kheav joined the technical staff of the BBF.

There will be a reception on Friday,

May 4 at 3 p.m.

to acknowledge Howard Edenberg

as Chancellor's Professor and to acknowledge Anna DePaoli- Roach for receiving the Trustee's Teaching

Award.

The reception will be held on the 4th floor

atrium outside the Biochem office.

Howard Edenberg Honored
