  • TCX Files: Character Translations

If you have never used TEX before, it is advisable to work through one of the TEX/LATEX tutorials. A good starting point is this entry in the UK TEX FAQ:

The --aux-directory=dir option causes TEX to create help files in another directory.. gt; latex -output-directory=C:\texoutput -aux-directory=C:\tobedeleted foo.tex .. >. The TEX input/output primitives can be used for unidirectional communication between processes by placing a pipe symbol before the file name. Of the several proposals for handling more than one input encoding, TCX files were chosen because they follow Knuth's original ideas for using thexchrandxordtables.

However, it turns out that re-translating WEB resources is not as simple a task as Knuth predicted; therefore, TCX files are introduced instead, allowing conversion tables to be changed on the fly. This is completely independent of the MLTeX extension: while a TCX file defines how an input character from the keyboard is mapped to internal TEX code, MLTeX defines replacements for a non-existent character glyph in a font with the \accent construct consisting of two separate character glyphs.

It is necessary that you update the filename database when manually installing TEX/LATEX related files into a user-managed TEXMF directory.

If you chose to install packages from a remote package repository, the MiKTEX Update Wizard displays a list of available package repositories.

A Short Excursion: The TEX Directory Structure (TDS)

For this walkthrough, we'll assume that your own add-ons are located in the directory tree rooted at C:\Local TeX Files. You can move C:\Local TeX Files before the installation folder if you want to prioritize your own files.

Optional: The name of another dump file to load before the actual dump file is created. A new executable named memory dump will be installed in the MiKTEX bin directory.

Changing TEXMF run-time parameters

Specifies the minimum number of intersections required for automatic inclusion of the cross entry in the citation list; default is two. The page origin is shifted from the default position (one inch down, one inch to the right of the upper left corner of the paper) by this amount. Set the paper type to the paper type, usually defined in one of the configuration files, along with the appropriate PostScript code to select it.

If the name begins with a + sign, the rest of the name (after any leading spaces) is used as an additional mapping file. When METAFONT is called under a different name, METAFONT will use that name as the name of the base to use. The output files are font.tfm and font.numbergf, where the number depends on the resolution and magnification of the font.

Check if the first line of the main input file starts with %& and parse if it does. Usename specifies the name of the format to be used instead of the name with which the program was called or a. But the program can also be helpful for users of other TEX systems, as many MiKTEX packages are system-independent.

List the contents of the package database: for each package, print the installation status, the number of files, the size and the name. This option is only available on Windows systems: permanently registers the location of the default package repository in the user area of the Windows registry. It may be necessary to specify the location of the installation directory, if you use MPM as a standalone program, that is, if MiKTEX is not the TEX system.

When called with any other name, METAPOST will use that name as the name of the meme to be used. Environment variables must be set with a "%f" as a placeholder for the filename. The output of the command is not redirected anywhere, so it will not appear in the log file.

When called under a different name, TEX will use that name as the name of the format to use. TEX will check the first line of the filepaper.text to see if it starts with the magic sequence %&. The response to TEX's error prompt causes the default editor to start on the current line of the current file.

These dimension parameters can be used to set the offset of the TEX output box from the top left corner of the "paper".
