Focus of The Research

In general, after analyzing the results of students' writing performance above, they can be stated that there are several students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Metro who still find the difficulties of using ellipsis in report writing text. Therefore, the researcher proposes to briefly analyze the use of ellipsis in report writing text among eleventh grade in SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Metro.

In this research, the researcher investigated the use of ellipsis in report writing text among the eleventh grade students of Muhammadiyah Senior High School 2 Metro. The representation will be shown using the informative and detailed data of the use of ellipsis in report writing.

Data Resource

In this study, when running the data source, the researcher divided it into primary and secondary data. It means that the student's first-hand data on the use of ellipsis in the report paragraph was obtained by the researcher as an object of this research. While collecting the data that already exists so that the researcher does not need to prepare a survey called secondary data such as English subject syllabus in Senior High School of Muhammadiyah 2 Metro.

Data Collecting Technique

In this term, the researcher observed the students' behavior, activities, condition and environment around the participants by taking field notes to know directly how the classroom process is. In addition, the students' data on the use of ellipsis in writing the report text among eleventh grade students of Muhammadiyah 2 Metro Senior High School had been obtained by the data collector soon.

Data Analysis Technique

In the first process, the researcher collected detailed data through field notes, transcriptions, typed notes from interviews, or optically scanned material to general participant codes and themes. Second, the researcher prepared the students' data on report writing performance using ellipses for analysis. Third, all text writing data of the students' reports using ellipsis were read to gain a deeper understanding of the participants' information.

Fourth, the researcher will encode and then label the data on the writing text of the student's report by using ellipsis descriptively. All sequential steps above can be performed simultaneously from collecting the data, preparing and reading the complete data to descriptively coding the data. In addition, the researcher can switch back and forth between data collection and analysis data to collect more representative data from the participants.

Approach

The researcher will read all the data and try to understand the ellipsis characteristics that are commonly used by students in the report text. Thus, the researcher took the codes from this overview to arrive at the next data. Codes were analyzed and labeled in detail based on the types of ellipses used.

Fifth, in this step, the researcher conveyed the description result about the students' ellipse through qualitative narrative. Sixth, this last step was the interpretation of the information from the data by presenting a list of students' ellipse knowledge in graph or diagram.36.

Based on the table above, it can be said that there are some ellipsis errors that are generally found in the report writing students. The total of using nominal ellpisis is 62 mistakes made by twenty. The total of the use of verbal ellpisis is 43 errors made by twenty students.

Discussion

To summarize in a nutshell, the researcher suggests that students read other references related to the ellipsis books, for example David Nunan's book titled, Halliday's book ”Cohesion in English”, which points out the types of ellipsis. The percentage of errors in using ellipsis in report writing in eleventh grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Metro. The kinds of errors in using ellipsis in report writing in eleventh grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Metro.

The diagram pie above indicates that there are several errors in using ellispsis in writing reports created by the students. The errors were 21% of clausal ellipse, 32% of verbal ellipsis, and the large percentage of using ellipsis in student report writing of the SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Metro was 47% of nominal ellipsis. Hence, due to the error data made by the eleventh grade students above, it can be assumed that the students are expected to increase their knowledge about the types of use of ellipsis in report writing to avoid errors in writing .

Meanwhile, the students who are good at writing, especially in the use of ellipsis in report text, are expected to maintain their understanding. The teacher should provide a clear elaboration on report writing and the use of each type of ellipsis deep in the teaching process to reduce students' unfamiliarity with the use of ellipsis in report writing.
