Nature activist Delima Silalahi

Delima Silalahi. A woman who were born in siborong-borong, north of sumatra, she studied public administration at University of North Sumatra. All of her achivement was get through extraordinary journey by Delima Silalahi itself, alumna from sosiology Department of UGM, who was named as the recipient of the 2023 Goldman Environmental Prize.

These success was obtain through the hard work of Delima, community group and community development and research (KSPPM) in north sumatra. Their community succeeded in helping local communities to restore their management rights of customary forests, fighting poverty and threatening forest drought.

Through an interview, Delima tell us a story of her wonderful carier, at 2013,she chose to continued her study in Magister Sosiology Program of UGM. Delima felt a lot of positif thing in Sosiology Department of UGM. The knowledge that she got in sosiology department really help her to understand about what is sosial fenomenon

At first, The Goldman Environmental Prize award made Delima skeptical, but with official evidence, he accepted this honor as an appreciation for KSPPM and the indigenous people's movement. For Delima, this award had a valuable meaning and burn her spirit to keep fighting for the environment

Even though the award was given to the individual, this award is still an encouragement to remain consistent in the environmental struggle. Delima advised that joining the environmental movement has deep meaning and makes a positive contribution, no matter how small it is.
