JONAH RUNS FROM GOD (Jonah 1)
Although the men rowed hard to get back to land, the sea grew more stormy, so they threw Jonah into the sea, which ceased to flow (1:13-15). Jonah prayed to God while in the belly of the fish, describing his terror and helplessness. The prophet who ran from God then ran to God in repentance with thanksgiving, recognizing that salvation comes from the Lord God.
God performed a miracle by preserving Jonah's life for three days and nights in the belly of this fish to accomplish His purpose. The Lord told Jonah a second time to go to Nineveh and preach the message that "I offer you." So Jonah ran with God. The king ordered the people to fast, cover themselves with sackcloth, and cry aloud to God.

NEHEMIAH'S SORROW
Tasting the king's wine to make sure it was not poisoned was one of the butler's most important duties. When Nehemiah took wine to the king after hearing about the conditions in Jerusalem, the king asked.

After Nehemiah had been in Jerusalem for three days without revealing his mission to anyone, he went to inspect the city walls at night. Then he went to the Jewish leaders and proposed that the work of restoration begin immediately, citing two reasons that would ensure success: God's hand had been good to him and also the words the king had spoken to him. With the cooperation of the Jewish leaders, Nehemiah then organized the work for the construction project.
In addition to voluntary labor from the people of surrounding towns, the inhabitants of Jerusalem repaired the portion of the walls opposite their own houses (Neh. 3). Some of the rulers of surrounding areas felt threatened by the restoration of fortifications at Jerusalem and opposed the project. Sanballat, a Horonite (secular history states that he was governor of Samaria), Tobiah, an Ammonite, and Geshem, an Arab, first mocked the Jews in their labor (Neh.
Sanballat taunted the Jews and called them, saying, if they can fortify themselves, offer sacrifices, finish the work in one day, bring stones to life from heaps of rubbish. He asked God to avenge their cause, because their enemies had angered God (Neh 4:4-5). How people were able to build a wall up to half its height despite opposition.
As the workers carried their burdens and built the wall with one hand, what did they carry in the other hand? When their ridicule and threat of armed intervention did not stop the work, Sanballat and his allies tried to deceive Nehemiah.

THE KINGDOM OF AHASUERUS
When these days were over, he prepared a feast for all the people in Shushan in the court of the garden of the palace. Drinks were served in pots with royal wine in abundance, but by law no one was required to drink. Queen Vashti, the king's command; therefore he became enraged and removed her from her royal position.
Ahasuerus then ordered that all the "beautiful young maidens" of the kingdom be brought to the palace in Shushan so that he could choose a replacement for Vashti. One of the young women brought to the palace was Esther, a Jewish girl, who was "beautiful and beautiful." Esther was adopted when her parents died by her cousin Mordecai, who was from the tribe of Benjamin and was a court official. Mordecai instructed Esther not to reveal her Jewish heritage to the king or his servants.
Esther found favor in the eyes of King Ahasuerus, and he loved her more than all the young women. In the seventh year of the reign, Ahasuerus "put the royal crown on her head" and made Esther his queen. The conspirators were executed, and Mordecai's service was recorded in the court's official book.

H AMAN'S P LOT
The decree drawn up by Haman and sealed with the king's ring caused great mourning among the Jews throughout the empire, who fasted, wept, and wore sackcloth. Esther was informed that her cousin Mordecai was at the king's gate, clothed in sackcloth and ashes. Mordecai told the servant to inform Esther of Haman's plan and instruct her to intercede with the king on behalf of her people, the Jews.
Esther informed Mordecai that anyone who approached the king in his inner court without being summoned would be condemned according to the law. If you remain silent during this time, salvation will come to the Jews from elsewhere, but you and your father's house.
At the banquet, the king again asked Esther what her request was and again promised her half the kingdom. Meanwhile, the king could not sleep that night and demanded that the minutes of the court be read in his presence. Mordecai's part in uncovering the assassination plot against Ahasuerus was read (Esthe and the king learned that Mordecai had not been rewarded for his service.
At the second banquet, Esther told the king of the plot to destroy the Jews and begged him to spare her life and the lives of her people. The king rose from the banquet in anger and went into the palace garden. Since the law of the Medes and Persians could not be changed, the king authorized Mordecai to issue another decree allowing the Jews to defend themselves on the day appointed for their massacre.
The decrees were sealed with the king's ring and sent through the provinces by couriers riding on the king's swift horses. What did Esther say when Esther asked the king to reverse the order for the Jewish slaughter? None could withstand them, for the princes of the provinces, the governors, and all who served the king, helped the Jews because they were afraid of Mordecai, whose fame and power had increased.
When the king asked Esther if she had anything else, she asked that the Jews in Shushan be allowed to attack their enemies the next day as well, and that Haman's ten sons be hanged on gallows. The king ordered this to be done, and the next day the Jews killed another 300 people in Shushan.
