Archives Team Meeting

July 27, 2021

Present: Laura Habecker, Laurie Lounsberry Meehan, Natalie Skwarek

1. Webpage – continuing item of business, we’ll work on it throughout the fall and with the goal to finalize by early spring.

2. ArchivesSpace – Laura has been looking at this archives management software; she and Natalie will get together to explore more. Laura has also asked Brett to take a look from the systems perspective.

3. MARAC Conference – Registration is now open. Laura and Laurie are planning to attend.

October 7 – 9, Gettysburg, PA.

4. Reunion 2021 – August 6-8. Natalie cleaned the display case in Powell Campus Center.

Laurie is working with three Greek houses for memorabilia displays and will do one for the College of Nursing alumni as well as a presentation for them. Natalie will take a selection of yearbooks to the campus center to alumni to take home with them.

5. AURA – There continues to be confusion over subject headings and unusual titles in AURA vs. cataloging for OCLC. Laurie will ask John, Sam and Maria to have a discussion about documenting the approach to each.

6. General Updates – Discussion on recent acquisitions and questions.

Future Team Projects

 Re-organize archive collections in AURA

 Create an APEX Archive Internship

 Investigate ACRL’s Project Outcome (Digital and Special Collections assessment and surveys)

 Reach out to the History Department: collaborations & better integration with curriculum &

students [similar outreach to targeted curriculums as well]

 Review the University’s Records Retention Policy to see if we have any suggested revisions

 Archive – Digital Projects Team:

o Digital photos from Athletics and Marketing

o Press releases and Alfred Today digital files for AURA (Brett has this as a to-do list item)

o Discuss procedures and process for doing digitization projects and ongoing communication between the teams
