In 1963, Southern Baptists responded to attacks on the authority and truthfulness of the Bible by adopting the Baptist Faith and Message Amendments. Now, faced with a culture hostile to the very notion of truth, this generation of Baptists must reclaim the eternal truths of the Christian faith.
We also honor the important contributions of the 1925 and 1963 editions of the Baptist Faith and Message. He is an intelligent, spiritual and personal being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver and Ruler of the universe.

This generation of Southern Baptists, then, is in a historical sequence of design and purpose as it seeks to establish for its time and theological climate those articles of the Christian faith that are most certainly held among us. Burk writes frequently on biblical and theological topics, and he has articles that have appeared in Tyndale Bulletin, Bulletin for Biblical Research, and The Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society. Burk is the author of a book on Greek grammar entitled Articular Infinitives in the Greek of the New Testament. In 1998, he became a member of the founding faculty of Boyce College, teaching all aspects of biblical studies.
He currently serves at Boyce as an Associate Professor of Education and as Boyce's Department Chair for Teacher Education. He is a contributing author to Mounce's Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testaments, published by Zondervan; author of the book Hebrews, Christ and the Law:. Kerns was born and raised in Greenville, South Carolina, the birthplace of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, around Boyce, Broadus, Williams and Manly streets.
He has spoken at numerous churches and conferences dealing with the history and belief structures of world religions and new religious movements. Because of his vast experience and commitment to the Great Commission, Professor Smith is uniquely qualified to share with the next generation of church leaders the critical importance of Christian youth ministry in the life of the church, both here in the United States and around the world. He previously served as editorial assistant and teaching assistant to the president at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
