(JIR(J 1JLAR LETTER,

TO THE CHURCHES COMPOSING THE LONG RUN ASSOCI.-\. TION.

DEAR BRETIIRF.:'i :-Onc~ more throClgh the dispensation of a kin,1 provi,lence, we are permitterl to tneet together til an associated cnprrcily and fer! inducerl by a Ie"ion of pleasure and duty, to ad- dres'i you by way of a cil"Clllar upon the g;rcat ann stupendous plan of salvation through the Lord our Righteousness. 'fo the minutes we would rer~r you, whrfc you may ~cc the business that came before the Association and the manner in which it was attenued to, whilst we proceed, flfst, to con- sider the depravity ane! corruption of hlltnan nature, ane! the total inability of fallen men to justify or save themselves; and secondly, the glonous condescension of God our Saviour, in bringing in an everlasting righteousness for his people, his body, the church. The depravity of human nature is ahundantly taught both in the Old and New Testament-the fallen, corrupt, and unholy stateofman.

Hence it is said, that although "God made man upright, yet he, (man,) bath sought ant mat>y inven- tions." And again, the Lord hath said, "the whole head is sick anr! the whole heart faint; from the sole of the foot even to the head, there is no soundness: all have gone out of the way and all have be- come unprofitable; there is none that r10eth good, no not one." "By one mall sin h:Hh entered into the world, and deatll hy sin; so that death has pa~see! upon all men, for th:ll all h"..-e sinned." "There- fore as sin amI death have entered into the ,,'orl(l, alld death reigned from Arlam to Moses, even over them who harl not sinnr.n. after the sitllilitn1c of l\dam's tl·::ti!~gre::;sion, (who is the figure of him that was-to come, that is of Christ Jesus.") God made promise ofa glodous Redeemer, who was typified by figure, 'Inri sbadows which could never take away sin, but were shadows of gooe! things to come until the reclemption of the purchaser! possession. to the praise of the glory of His grace; and

.. 5 grace was given the church in Christ . .J esus before the world bpgan, "it behooved Him for whom are all things and by whom are all things, ill bringing many sons to glory, to mali:e the captain of our sal-

"ation perfect through suffering:" hence "in the fullness of time, God sent forth His son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the la,v; that we might receive the arloption of sons." And as without the sheddillg of bloou there is no remission of sins, our glorious Redeemer as a lamb, offered himself without spot to God, shedding his precious blood, expir- ing upon the cross, that he might plll'ge our conscience from dear! works to sen'e the living God.

Here is the everlasting covenant sealed: here is the glorious fountain opened for sin anrl uncleanness, when Chrtst our ransom died, bearing our sins in his own bony Oil the tree, and ma'king an atone- ment fur us; removing the hallri writing of ordinances which were against U~, and were contrary to us, taking them out of the way, nailing them to his crMS. How glorious, how consoling to the dear child·

ren of God, when cO'ltemplatillg the period of their sufferings, the glory of their inheritance amongot the saints, the sanctified, the .i.u~t rnaue perfect, who surround the throne where the redeemer! will join in praise to G01 and the Lalnb forever! 0 brethren! let ", daily examine Olmell'es by. the uncrri'l;

standard nf truth. Let Ull prove ourselves, "knowing that except Christ be in us we are reprobat" •• "

Let us prove to all around us by a pious walk and Godly conversation, that we have been tau!!:hl of the Lord, redeeming the time for the days are evil. \Ve would recommend watching and pr';:yer-

"atching over the lusts of the flesh, the pride of the eye, and the wilds of the wicked one; and praying to Our God to strengthen us with might by his spirit in the inner man, that we may beJ'oun(j blameless and harmless, the sons of God, Wllhout rebuke ill the midst of a crooked and perverse gPI\.

eralion; among whom also ye shine as lights in the world, having your conversation hOliest be rare men, that they seeing your good works may glorify God in the day of visitatIon, when th .. time~ of re- fteshing shall come from the presence of the Lonl. Let us endeavor to set pious and Godly 'exam- ples before the world; and as this is not our home, let our affections be placed all things above and not on this terrestrial world; "for sao II this earthly house of our tabernacle must be dissolved" and we shall enter that rest that remains for the peopie of God, where also our forerunner hath entered for us, having obtained a complete victory over the grave, and prepared a place for his people, that where b.

is, there they may be also, that they may behold bis glo'y and dwell in his presence and see his glori- ous face without a veil, "where God the son forever reigns and scatters night away." 0 brethren ana sisters! pray for sinners who are yet in darkness, that God may give them repentance unto life and save them; and pray the good Lord to raise up and send forth faithful ministers into his vineyard, who shall declare the whole counsel of God, not for filthy lucre's sake, but of a ready mind. Now :he God of peace that brought again from the dead our Lord J csus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work, to do his will;

working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory forever andoever. Amen.
