Syarifudin & Husnawadi Universitas Islam Negeri Mataram Pendidikan Street. No. 35 Mataram, Indonesia 15 March 2021

Dear the Editorial team of Arab World English Journal (AWEJ),

We wish to submit an original research article entitled “PERCEIVED ACCEPTANCE OF ENACTING GOOGLE DOCS IN AN ONLINE COLLABORATIVE EFL WRITING CLASSROOM” for consideration by Syarifudin and Husnawadi (see attached document along with Cover letter and pay agreement form).

We confirm that this work is original and has not been published elsewhere, nor is it currently under consideration for publication elsewhere.

In this paper, we report on the perceived acceptance of Google Docs enacted in an online collaborative EFL writing classroom amid the Covid-19 pandemic. It was anchored in the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) theory (Davis, 1989). This is significant because the findings contribute to the current body of research where gaps and practices regarding Google Docs during this new normal remains scanty, and provides insights for English (writing) instructors to adopt the Web 2.0 technology for such a pedagogical objective.

We believe that this manuscript is appropriate for June Edition of AWEJ Journal because it meets the scope and limitation of the call for publication of the journal, Teaching and Learning of English as a Foreign Language and English teaching and learning in a digital age.

There are two primary impetuses for this study: the contextual problems and gap in the current literature.

The inadequacy of writing practices amid the Covid-19 pandemic has been an issue surrounding the ELT landscape. It has been a quest for what kind of Web 2.0 technology that is appropriate to facilitate the writing practices and how it can be enacted. Based on the current literature, we suggest that collaborative writing may benefit the students in this hard time. For that reason, the notion of collaborative writing is inclusive in the manuscript. Additionally, despite a plethora of studies on the use of Web 2.0 technology in the ELT landscape during the Covid-19 pandemic, few have examined the extent to which students accept the enactment of Google Docs for collaborative writing. Hence, this study addresses both of the contextual issues and research void. More importantly, this study provides solid evidence of the pedagogical acceptance of Google Docs for collaborative writing practices in the new normal era or Covid-19 pandemic, during which physical distancing is mandatory. We believe that this study will be of readers’ current interests regarding the use of Google Docs for online collaborative writing instruction during the hard time and beyond.

We have no conflicts of interest to disclose. Please address all correspondence concerning this manuscript to me at [email protected] or [email protected]

Thank you for your consideration of this manuscript, and we are gladly looking forward to hearing from you

soon.

Dear Editor,

I just noticed that the manuscript is supposed to be published in the special edition. We would be much appreciative if you could get it published in the regular edition instead of the special edition because the credit point for the special edition cannot be used for our professional purposes. We initially submitted the paper to be published in the regular, not the special edition. We are committed to pay more for the publication in the regular edition in case it is necessary.

Thank you for your kind attention and consideration.
