A thesis of English Education Department Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Makassar Muhammadiyah University. Guided by Syamsiarna Nappu and Radiah Hamid.

The objective of this research was to find out whether or not the use of Cue Cards Media improves the students’ speaking ability in term of vocabulary and grammar at the Eight Grade of MTs. Muhammadiyah Tallo.

This research employed quasi-experimental design. This type of research involves two classes with control and experimental class. There were two variables, namely independent variable (independent variable was the use of Cue Cards Media) and dependent variable (The dependent variable was the students’ Speaking skill). The population of this research was the Eighth Grade Students’ of MTs. Muhammadiyah Tallo in Academic Year 2016/2017 which consisted of 75 students. The samples were taken by using purposive sampling. The samples of this research were VIII.1 that consists of 25 students as control class and VII.2 that consist of 25 students as experimental class. Thus, a total number of the sample were 50 students.

The instrument of this research was a speaking test used as pre-test and post-test. The result of the data indicated that there was a significant improvement of the students’speaking ability between the students who were taught by using Cue Cards Media from those who were taught by using Three Phase Technique as the conventional teaching method. The mean score of post-test (vocabulary= 8,2 and grammar = 8,3) in experimental class was greater than the mean score of post-test (vocabulary = 6,4 and grammar = 6,4) in control class. The value of t-test (Vocabulary = 18 and grammar = 18) was greater than t-table (1,76).

Therefore, hypothesis H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. Based on the finding and discussion of this research, the researcher draws a conclusion that Cue Cards Media improve the students’ speakingability at the eighth grade students of MTs. Muhammadiyah Tallo.
