PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE
A. Pola Kalimat :
(+) S + am/is/are + verb1-ing + O (-) S + am/is/are + not + verb1-ing +O (?) am/is/are + S + verb1-ing + O?
Examples:
+ Budi is listening to the radio now.
- Budi is not listening to the radio now.
? Is Budi listening to the radio now?
* TO BE – AM : untuk subject I.
* TO BE – IS : untuk subject he, he, it, dan
* TO BE – ARE : untuk subject you, they, we, tono
B. Penggunaan.
1. Untuk menyatakan suatu perbuatan / peristiwa yang sedang berlangsung pada saat ini.
example: I am teachin/g English at present.
2. Untuk menyatakan aktivitas yang bersifat sementara
examples: - She is cooking rice now but she will write soon.
- We are waiting for the bus
C. Keterangan waktu (adverbial of time)
Yang biasa digunakan dalam present continuous tense.
- now : sekarang
- right now : saat ini
- still : masih
- at present : pada saat ini - at this moment : sekarang ini
Catatan:
1. To be dalam present continuous adalah am, is, are
2. Untuk membuat kalimat negative dengan menambah not pada to be nya.
Example; I am not speaking english
3. Ketentuan membuat verb-ing sebagai berikut:
a. secara umum Verb1 langsung ditambah ‘ing’

b. Verb1 yang bersuku kata satu diakhiri dengan huruf mati maka huruf mati tersebut digandakan baru ditambah ing.
Bid - Bidding Cut - Cutting Sit - Sitting Dig - Digging
c. Verb-I yang berkhiran dengan huruf ‘e’ dan didahului oleh konsonan maka huruf ‘e’ dihilangkan
Rise - Rising Bite - Biting
d. Jika vocal ‘e’ didahului oleh dua vocal langsung tambah ing Agree - Agreeing Free - Freeing
e. Jika Verb-I berakhiran ‘e’ didahului oleh ‘i’ maka ‘ie’ diganti ‘y’ baru ditambah ‘ing’
