TWO NEW SCALE-MITE PARASITES OF LIZARDS By

reason for assuming that the hosts of thetwo
series are thesame and
that the "lizard" of FortMcKinley
is identical with the geckoH.

Remarks. — The
species closely resembles Gechohia simplex Hirst, 1926, describedfrom Hemidactylus
leschenaulti., Madras, India, in the shape of the hairs of the dorsal surfaceand
in theform
of the dorsal scute. It differsfrom
this species in having only about half thenumber
of hairson the dorsal scute,thesebeingalsomore
similar to theremainingbody
hairs in lengthand
thickness than is the case in G.simplex. It further differs in there being very littledifference in the shape of the dorsal hairs of the secondand

According
toHirst'skey (1925,p. 174),thisspecieswould
be brack- eted with Geckohia australis Hirst, 1926, but inwidth
ofbody and
generalform
of dorsal hairsand
ventral scales, it seemsto resemblemore
closely G. hindustanica Hirst, 1926, describedfrom Hemidacty-
lus leschenaulti., Madras, India. It differs
from
G. hindustanica in thecompleteabsence of a dorsal scuteand
intherelatively largersize of legIV,aswell asinotherdetails.Genus

This genus
was
erectedby
Hirst (1917, p. 138) for thescale mites of Iguanid lizards,and
thus far itsmembers have
beenfound
to occur only on species of the genusSceloporus. Itwould
be of great interest toknow what
types ofscalemitesoccuron
theothernumerous
genera of thefamilyIguanidaeintheNew World.
The
eyes,which
are notmentioned
in the description of the genus, consist of a single pair situated inmuch
thesame
position as those of Geckobiaand
Zomorobia., Lawrence, 1935,being located anteriorly near the lateralmargin
of the body.They
are small, only a littlelarger
han

The
dorsal hairs aremuch more numerous
insome
specimensthanin others,therebeingprobably a certainamount
of variation inthis respect.The mouth
parts are longerand more
robustthan inmost
genera of Pterygosomidae; the free portion of the peritremes reach to the distalend
of the second palpal segment; the second palpal segment with a fairly long slender hair of equal thickness throughout, not pointed at the apex, with fine barbs; dorsal hair of the third palpal segmentlonger,pointedapicallyand smooth
oralmostso; fourthpal- palsegment witha single setaabove,clawstout,conical,and somewhat
