The
10new
species herein described are accumulationsfrom
vari- ous collectionsof Isopods transmitted to theUnited
States NationalMuseum.
The
onenew
genus, Pterisopodus, is so widely differentfrom
all previouslyknown
forms of the suborderCymothoidea
that it has been necessaryto establish anew
family forit,the Pterisopodidae.The
illustrationswere made by
Mrs. E. Bennett Decker,under
my

sion widens anteriorly forming
a deep V-shaped excavation, enhanc-
ingthe bilobed impression; below thisdepression the frontal margin
isproduced triangularly into a rostral processwith a tooth-likepro- jectionon either sideof the
median
point; the frontalmargin
ofeach supraocular lobe is recurved,having
a tricrenulate aspect.The
superior antennae
have
a peduncle of four stout, subequal articles,and
a flagellum of fourshort, fine articles,and
extend to the flagel-lum
of the inferior antennae; the inferior antennae have a peduncle of four unequal articlesand
a flagellum of eight small articles,and
are oneand
one-half times as long as the mandibles.The

after a critical examination of the types ofmany
species of both genera, I feel it is probable that the finding of additional specimenswillmake

is squarish with the anteriormargin rounded and
is tiltedupward and
outward; the lateral lobes are largeand

situated at the base of the lateral lobes.The
second antennaehave
the first four articles of the peduncle subequal; the fifth ismuch
longer, about 1mm.;

hook-like point; the flagellum is about as long as the fifth joint; the second antennae extend tothe anteriormargin

have the lateral parts concealedby

of the thoracic segments; the sixth segment is abruptly narrow, triangulate, with the posteriormargins
recurved.The
peduncle of theuropod
is broad, about two-thirds as long as the terminal segment; the inner branch is minute, placed at the innerdistalangle of the peduncle; the outerbranch isbrokenoff.The
posteriormargins
of the head, thorax,and
first five abdomi- nal segments are heavily carinated.The
entirely dorsal surface isdensely granulated,hasscattered minute
pigment
spots,and
is finely setiferous.The
holotype (Cat. No. 50405, U.S.N.M.)and two
paratypescome from La
Puntilla, Vedado, nearHabana,
Cuba,and
were se-cured
and
donated to theUnited
States NationalMuseum by

Sanchez Roig. All thesespecimens are slightly broken.This species isvery near Leptotrichus gixmulatus Richardson,^ but differs
from
it in the following: (1) Greater length of the second antennae, (2) inhaving
the central lobe of thehead
longer or greater, (3) in the shape of tclson, (4) the carinated aspect of themargins
of thesegments ismore
pronouncedand
theentirespecimenis
more compact
