In other words, there are cells in the heart that communicate with the brain. These afflictions are the spiritual diseases of the heart (the center of our being) – the subject of this book.
Translation & Commentary
Introduction to Purification
We are commanded to be sincere in our speech, which is a measure of the heart. Imam al-Ghazali considers sufferings of the heart to be part of the Adamic potential.
Miserliness
It is a privilege to be in a position to give charity and an honor to fulfill a divine obligation. In Islam, it is anathema to give away in charity, which is despicable and inferior.
Wantonness
Freeing the heart from diseases such as wantonness requires the remembrance of the Hereafter and its various states and tumultuous scenes. The Imam quotes the verse: God does not love those who shout (QURAN, 28:76), whether it is about their wealth, status or anything else.
Hatred
Iniquity
When one examines the behavior of the companions, they tried to be closer to the Prophet to learn more about their obligations and what would bring them closer to God. The believers around the prophet saw up close that God had chosen Muhammad to be the carrier and example of the final message sent to mankind.
Love of the World
If it leads to spiritual upliftment and healing of the heart, then it is praiseworthy. Acquiring wealth and position for the benefit of the needy is also not considered blameworthy.
Envy
One of the names of Hell mentioned in the Qur'an is hawiya (QUR'AN, 101:9), which is derived from the same root as hawa. But the root of most of this rhetoric is envy: "They have worldly wealth, but we don't." When Muslims look at the Gulf countries that have large oil reserves, they cannot resist judging how the Gulf Arabs squander "Muslim money". This is an envy dialogue.
Blameworthy Modesty
Being as generous as he was, the Prophet stayed with them and patiently waited for his guests to complete their visit. At one point the prophet got up and left the room and came back, as gently as. The prophet was too modest to tell his guests that it was time to leave.
Fantasizing
Fear of Poverty
God exposed the unbelievers among the Quraysh who wanted to make deals and compromises with the Prophet so that religion would become a way to take care of their worldly affairs. The Quraish wanted the Prophet to praise their gods and rituals even though he does not believe in them, and they, in turn, would not oppress the Prophet and the Muslims. In the end, nothing of religion remains and our worldly condition does not improve.” God will never fix the affairs of this world when he or she destroys religion.
Ostentation
Scholars of the sacred law say that it is perfectly acceptable to worship in order to seek the pleasures of the afterlife, as there are many exhortations to do so in the Qur'an. According to others, it is not a matter of showing off if his intention in the act is sincerely for the will of God. The essential point about worship is that it is done for God alone.
Relying on Other than God
Displeasure with Divine Decree
The prophet once said that whoever has a mustard seed of pride in his heart will not enter heaven, a sentiment shared by Christianity. When the Prophet saw the people severely tested, he prayed: “Praise be [God]. It is important to look at the life of the Prophet and know that no one faced greater hardship.
Seeking Reputation
And if [a whole nation] were to gather together to harm you, it would harm you only with something that God had already prescribed for you." It is necessary to remember that when a person is equal with God - obeys His commandments. , avoid what he has forbidden, and go beyond mere obligations and remember him often through litanies, voluntary acts of worship, and generosity of charity—the evil prayers of others will not prevail. It saved my life." This is indifference to the fact that one of God's attributes is the Healer.
False Hope
No matter how wealthy people appear in this world – no matter the beautiful goods that surround them – if they have nothing good in the Hereafter, then they are essentially miserable. People who recognize the urgency of the human situation and their own threatening circumstances, mortal people do not waste their time. Clinging to superstition means having a negative understanding of the reality of God and His authority and presence.
Negative Thoughts
If there is a lot of corruption in a given generation, it is best to be wary of people until their goodness becomes apparent. There is a hadith that says: “There are two things that no believer has been given anything better than: a good opinion of God and a good opinion of the servants of God.” According to Sacred Law, people are innocent until proven guilty. If he thinks well of me, he thinks good, and if he thinks bad of me, he thinks evil.” There is also the hadith.
Vanity
When the Roman Emperor triumphed in a battle, he organized a victory celebration in which the battle general was paraded through the streets. Behind him in his chariot, a slave held a laurel wreath and whispered in the general's ear, "All is vanity," thus reminding the general of the dangers of vanity. But when one is grateful to God and recognizes and praises Him as the source of this goodness, then this achievement lasts longer than our earthly lives and human memories, because God preserves it.
Fraud
Anger
Mawlana Jalaluddin al-Rumi locates the wisdom of the Islamic prohibition of alcohol in the danger of anger. The main characteristic of the Islamic religion is that the "middle way" is the way that Muslims follow. The third part of the brain is known as the new brain or neocortex, where the rational faculty resides.
Heedlessness
The benefits we should seek are the acquisition of knowledge and the request of a righteous person. The actual sounds of the language of the Qur'an – the breathtaking rhythms and words – are like medicine. Therefore, it is important to know that the beauty of the Qur'an encompasses both meanings and sound.
Rancor
Boasting & Arrogance
Abu Hurayrah – the illustrious repository of prophetic hadith – was once in the company of another person who immediately moved his feet away from Abu Hurayrah out of respect for this exalted companion of the Prophet. 34;If you are not like the real people, at least imitate them.' It is better to simulate humility than to be an outright arrogant man. The Prophet said: 'I am the best of the children of Adam and I am not boasting. ." His honor was based entirely on his service to God the Exalted - not on wealth, lineage, power or authority.
Displeasure with Blame
The Prophet at the Battle of Uhud wore two coats of mail, and no one knew more about God's power and authority than he. Being aware of God's attributes does not mean that people should stop using their intellect, for we live in a world of causes. Actions done for God's sake cannot share any other intentions, namely to please people or to seek their favor.
Antipathy Toward Death
The Prophet said, "Satisfaction is a treasure that never runs out." He also prayed, "O God, provide for my family with what is sufficient for them and give them satisfaction with it." The rich soul is one who is content. It is contentment enlightened by knowledge and by reflection on death and its meaning. Those who are indifferent to death have no problem doing wrong, since death is not a factor in their lives.
Obliviousness to Blessings
There are also things that are harmful to a person immediately and in the long run, such as. Then there are things that offer instant gratification, but the long-term benefits are nil. It can be difficult for a person to stop eating until they are full, but the long-term benefits are obvious.
Derision
But she later became Muslim, a companion of the Prophet—a member of that special generation of mankind. Reflecting on the ethics that the Qur'an communicates to us in the aforementioned passages reveals that there is power in dealing nobly with people. The treatment for ridicule is to realize that the essence of ridicule is to humiliate people.
Comprehensive Treatment for the Heart
It is not surprising that Imam Mawlud mentions starvation first among the comprehensive treatments for the heart. If one makes a habit of spending part of the night in prayer and happens to sleep until the time of dawn prayer, then that is it. It is recommended that the last prayer be the Witr prayer (the last prayer of the evening).
Beneficial Actions for Purifying the Heart
An atom's weight of lofty praiseworthy actions from the heart - such as contentment with what one has, detachment from worldly things and trust [in God] - . is better in God's sight than high mountains of outward actions [without sincerity]. The Imam next says that the worst things a person can do are those deeds that harden the heart. Imam Mawlud says next, "An atom's weight of high praiseworthy action from the heart is better than high mountains of external actions with no heart." He then paraphrases what Imam Sahnun said: "Leaving one penny of what God has forbidden is better than going on pilgrimage 70,000 times."
The Root of All Diseases of the Heart
Many scholars have specified blessing the prophet as particularly effective because it is a prayer guaranteed to be answered by God. Most of the other recommended cures touch on or include remembrance of God as essential. Even here preference should be given (after the words of the Qur'an and the Prophet) to the words of the Companions and Successors (Tabi'un).
