xii ABSTRACT

ADELINA MISI. 2015. Improving the Students’ Speaking Skill through Humanistic Approach at the Second year of Pesantren Madrasah Aliyah Sultan Hasanuddin Gowa, under the thesis of English Education Department the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Makassar Muhammadiyah University (guided by Kaimuddin and Maharidha).

This research aimed to find the improvement of the students’ speaking Accuracy, Fluency and Self confidence through Humanistic Approach at the Second year of Pesantren Madrasah Aliyah Sultan Hasanuddin Gowa.

The researcher used A Classroom Action Research (CAR). The researcher had conducted two cycles, where each cycle consisted of four meetings. It employed speaking test as instrument. The instruments are speaking test and observation. A number of subjects of the research were 19 students in class XI IPA. Those consist of 16 women and 3 men. The researcher took data real from the school to know the students’ speaking.

The research findings indicate that the application of Humanistic Approach in improving the students’ speaking skill in terms of accuracy and fluency. It is proved by the mean score of cycle I is 6.7 then improved to be 7.3 in cycle II. They are higher than the mean score of diagnostic test is 5.0 . And the standar KKM (7), that could be achieved after conducting cycle II. From these findings, the researcher made conclusion that by using humanistic approach could improve the students’ speaking skill and make the students’ active to speak in learning process.
