The main problem of this research is how is the improvement of vocabulary aspect after applying the learning technique of retelling story through picture series in X MIPA 2 at SMA Negeri 9 Sinjai.

The type of this research is a quantitative reasearch with a pre- experimental design using retelling story through picture series as a learning technique to improve students‟ learning outcomes in speaking skills. Research procedure include pre-test, treatment and post-test. The subjects in this research were 24 students‟ of X mipa 2 SMA Negeri 9 Sinjai.

Based on the research result, the pre-test score is (56) and the post-test score is (68), so the pre-test and post-test results use retelling story through picture series to improve students' speaking ability in terms of vocubalry increased (0.21%). This means that there is a higher increase in the post-test than in the pre-test. Furthermore, the result of the T-test value (4.80) is higher than the T-table value (1.714) at significant (0.05).

From the results of the research data analysis, it can be concluded that the retelling story through picture series can improve the Speaking Ability of Students at SMAN 9 Sinjai.
