Pamela Wilkins Schu '89 of Hornell is the new health and wellness educator at Alfred University. Dr. Norman Pollard, dean of students, made the announcement.The health and wellness educator at AU is charged with creating and

delivering health promotion and educational programs including awareness weeks/months (alcohol, body image, breast cancer, women's and men's health, sexually transmitted diseases, flu, cancer, and respiratory illness); management of the alcohol and other drug programs; residence hall programs; mental health screenings; management of peer-to-peer programs; identifying opportunities for grant funding and collaboration; outreach to campus groups; and providing individual appointments.The health and wellness educator is responsible for implementing programs and services designed to proactively educate and empower students to make healthy lifestyle choices, said Pollard,"After conducting a national search, we felt Pam had the best combination of skills, knowledge, and experience for our campus

community. She will be a wonderful addition and make a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of our students," he added.Schu earned a B.S. degree in nursing from Alfred University, magna cum laude, and an M.S. in health education from the State University of New York at Brockport.She most recently served as a health educator for grades kindergarten through four in the Wayland-Cohocton (NY) Central School District. She has also previously served in the Alcohol Detoxification Unit for St. James Mercy Health, Hornell, and as community educator for Planned Parenthood of the Southern Finger Lakes (formerly Planned Parenthood of the Southern Tier).A member of the Bethesda Community Foundation, Hornell, Schu is chairman of the Foundation's planning committee. In August 2005, she was a volunteer camp nurse for Cameron Ministries-Youth Programming at a five-day camp in Delhi, NY, for inner-city Rochester children aged 7-14.
