Starting the engine with the wrong torque can cause the impeller to become unthreaded from the pump shaft and crack the casing, which can cause personal injury. With the pump disconnected from the motor, verify that the motor rotation is correct according to section 5.2. It is important to verify that the motor rotation is correct and this verification is performed with the motor disconnected from the pump.

The gland water must be available at a pressure of 10psi. maximum) above the discharge pressure of the pump. The gland follower should be adjusted enough to allow a small flow of gland water along the shaft while the pump is running.

HANDLING OF RUBBER COMPONENTS

HANDLING OF MECHANICAL COMPONENTS

A BEARING ASSEMBLY

Apply a layer of silicone to the edges of the housing, followed by the end cap. Insert a dowel pin into the hole in the face of the second finger and slide into position, the small O.D. Insert the lock pin pin into one of the lock nut slots and tighten the bearing.

Place the second locknut on the threads of the locknut with the flat side out and tighten it securely in place. Bend one of the angled protrusions of the lock washer into a slot on the second lock nut.

B BEARING ASSEMBLY TO PEDESTAL

After this, grease is pumped through both grease nipples in the bearing housing until the grease that was packed between the rollers begins to be pushed out. Install the bearing lock washer flat end first onto the drive end of the shaft, aligning the inner tab with the keyway and against the installed lock nut. Pull the housing clamp bolts up from the bottom of the pedestal and hold them in place with nuts and washers.

Tighten them evenly on both sides to ensure correct shaft alignment for subsequent gland alignment. GENERAL NOTE: Be careful in using lubricants such as greases and anti-seize compounds when joining metal components together.

GLAND SIDE CASING AND SHAFT PREP

Install the shaft seal O-ring, bushing spacer O-ring, or gasket (23) (whichever is appropriate for the pump you are assembling) on the shaft against the mudguard. If a sleeve spacer (22) is required, install it on the shaft, followed by the shaft seal O-ring or other sleeve spacer seal (23).

GLAND ARRANGEMENT

A CENTRIFUGAL SEAL

Insert the remaining rings of the gasket with the end gaps staggered on opposite sides of the bore and tap down evenly. Tighten the 3 gland bolt nuts evenly until they engage the washers against the gland follower. Bring up the gland arrangement so that the axle sleeve (27) slides over the impeller shaft.

Place the shaft sleeve O-ring or shaft end gasket up against the shaft sleeve. Install the impeller (32) on the shaft with the exhaust vanes positioned toward the exhaust ring (33).

B WATER FLUSH SEAL

Screw the gland screws (18) with washers (17) into the bushing (24) and tighten evenly until the gland screws contact the gland follower, but only finger tight. Some pumps use studs instead of screws and the gland follower is installed in the same way as the centrifugal seal in 10.2.A.

C MECHANICAL SEAL

GLAND SIDE CASING LINER

IMPELLER

If the rotor clogs the housing liner on the gland side (2) before it contacts the shaft sleeve (27), loosen the bearing assembly setscrews, adjust the shaft forward and retighten the setscrews. Otherwise, the starting torque at start-up may further tighten the rotor, fouling the gland-side housing side lining during the process, causing twisting or damage to the gland-side housing lining. Make sure bushing spacer (22) and shaft sleeve (27) rotate with pump shaft after rotor is tightened.

Use the adjusting screw to move the impeller axially toward the housing liner on the gasket side. Adjust until the impeller is in contact with the gasket-side housing liner and the reverse adjusting screw to move the impeller 1.5 mm (0.06”) from the gasket-side housing liner.

SUCTION SIDE CASING ASSEMBLY

Adjust the impeller (19) close to the gland side casing liner (2) to ensure that the suction liner wear ring (25) does not foul the front of the impeller during installation of the suction side casing assembly. Lubricate taper OD of suction liner and taper ID of suction side casing liner (4) with glycerin, soap or an approved rubber lubricant. Install suction liner with wear ring into suction side casing liner by matching taper OD of suction liner with taper ID of suction side casing liner.

Install washers (3) with nuts (9) on intake manifold studs through intake side housing and tighten evenly to fully seat intake liner into intake side housing liner. After tightening the nuts, the intake pipe should be flush or slightly offset with the casing lining on the intake side at their mating surfaces.

ASSEMBLY OF SUCTION SIDE CASING TO GLAND SIDE CASING

With the nails and screws in the suction liner facing down, install the wear ring (25) in the molded strip groove of the suction liner. Push the wear ring into the suction liner until the flat, flat surface of the ring ring is flush with the raised ring of the suction liner. Rotate the suction liner until the studs line up with the smaller holes drilled in the suction side housing (6) and insert the eyebolts (31) attached to the larger holes drilled in the suction side housing.

BEARING LUBRICATION

There is no substitute for establishing baseline readings after startup such as vibration and temperature and then regularly monitoring them for changes in these readings to indicate a need for attention to the bearings. The grease nipples fitted to the bearing housing end caps are for lubrication of the lip seal and crank area and provide a grease barrier to prevent slurry and/or gland water from entering the bearings. It must be lubricated daily so that clean grease ejects from the edge of the flinger.

For dirty environments common in coal applications, or in the case of an excessively leaking gland seal, the frequency of lubrication should be halved regardless of the bearing's operating temperature. In general, most millMAX parts replacement procedures are straight forward and a reverse of the installation.

IMPELLER

There are punch marks on the flat surface of two of the three segments of the release collar. It is important to reassemble the release collar segments with the punch marks together as shown in Figure 8. It may be necessary to install the release collar on the shaft with screws loose before final torque is applied.

Fill the recess of the socket head cap screws with silicone sealant to prevent moisture from coming into contact with these fasteners and contaminating the threads. If necessary, fill the outside diameter in the stuffing box side housing to provide an air gap between the outside diameter of the shaft sleeve and the inside diameter of the expeller ring or lantern bushing.

Installation and Maintenance Instructions for Electric Motors

If the engine has two lifting devices, a double chain must be used to lift it. THIS LOCKING DEVICE MUST BE USED FOR ANY FURTHER TRANSPORT OF THE ENGINE, EVEN WHEN THIS MEANS UNCOUPLING THE ENGINE. Measure the insulation resistance before operating the motor and/or when there are signs of moisture in the winding.

Motors supplied for hazardous locations must be installed in areas conforming to that specified on the motor's nameplate. Make sure the drains are placed in the lower part of the car when the mounting configuration is different. Ensure that the motor mounting devices do not allow changes to the alignment and further damage to the bearings.

If this is not possible, use compatible methods for motor load and voltage. Be sure to use the correct cable size based on the rated current stamped on the motor nameplate. 9 When a change, under normal conditions, is detected, check the engine and replace the necessary parts.

9 Pour about half of the total grease and run the engine for 1 minute at full speed. 9 For applications (with high or low temperatures, speed fluctuations, etc.), the type of grease and the relubrication interval are given on an additional nameplate attached to the engine. SPECIFICATION OF THE MOTOR MOUNTING PLACE IS THE CUSTOMER'S RESPONSIBILITY, WHO WILL ALSO SPECIFY.
