ABSTRACT

Most students view that state universities have a prestigious reputation with complete facilities and relatively affordable costs. Many high school graduates take university entrance exams and make sure they can meet the criteria to pass the selection so that their desire to continue their studies can be realized. Therefore, Grit is needed by students to support the spirit to achieve long-term goals accompanied by strong determination. Self-compassion and intolerance of uncertainty are expected to help increase student grit. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between self- compassion and intolerance of uncertainty with grit in college students. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational method. Research data were collected using adaption of The Short Grit Scale (Grit-S), Self-Compassion Scale (SCS), and Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale (IUS). The subjects in this study were college students, totalling 243 people. The data were analyzed using Spearman Correlations technique. The results of this study indicate that there is a positive and significant relationship between self-compassion and grit. Contrary to the hypothesis, Intolerance of Uncertainty corelates negatively with grit. In the future, it is recommended to conduct research with more participants to retest whether Intolerance of Uncertainty corelates negative and grit corelates negatively with more firm result.
