INTRODUCTION

Background of Study

One of the important aspects is the linguistic aspect which covers grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, structure and so on. In addition to these aspects, students must also master language skills such as listening, speaking, reading and writing. Listening is one of the important skills that the student should have learned in learning a language, such as learning English, but learning to be good at listening is not easy as it seems.

Preliminary research data in tenth grade MA Nurul Ulum Kotagajah Lampung Tengah. As can be seen from the results of 30 students, only 10 students or 41% will be able to reach standard competence. According to the above problem, it is very important to improve listening ability through the media of video recordings at MA Nurul Ulum Kotagajah Kabupaten Lampung Tengah.

The use of video media is expected to increase students' motivation and overcome students' difficulties in learning to listen. Based on this background, the researcher named “Improving students' listening skills through the media of videos in the tenth grade of Ma Nurul Ulum Kotagajah Lampung Tengah in the academic year.

Description of the results of the survey. When all the students were ready to start the lesson, the researcher asked them to first go back to the last material they had studied in the last session and review it. In addition, it was also supported by the pre-test and post-test results of students' listening ability.

To assess the students' listening skills in the post-test, the researcher also made a score table. It is clear that Video Clip can be used to improve the students' listening skills. When the exercise was done, the researcher and the students discussed the answer to the task.

A number of the students were able to answer the questions when asked by the researcher. The researcher then asked the students to write and check the words in the dictionary.

  • The Concept of Listening

Listening is one of the subjects studied within language studies and in the discipline of conversation analysis. In Rost's book, listening is defined as one of the communication process which includes four types of orientation which are receptive, constructive, collaborative and transformative orientations. It is the listener's response, not the source of the message, that defines appreciative listening.

Teaching listening requires a bit more from the teacher than from the students. As already mentioned, one of the principles in teaching listening is that the teacher always asks the students to listen for the purposes of listening. The meanings represented by the video result from the mixture and interaction of the following elements;.

But in metaphor, the greater the distance between the meaning of the word and the image, the more weight the audience interprets. As with other audiovisual media, videos emphasize the importance of matter rather than the process of material development.

Action Hypothesis

The researcher also planned to provide evaluation to measure the students' . mastery of the given materials. The researcher released the media to attract the students to listen to the teacher's explanation. From the table above, it could be seen that the students' scores in post-test II were different.

Students were asked to answer the tasks in the same way as in the pretest. From the result of the pre-test, it showed that most of the students found it difficult to perform the test. In this research, to know the students' mastery of listening skills after the implementation of the treatment, the researcher conducted the post-test I.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Type of the Research

Classroom action research is a research aimed at improving the quality of learning practices, which focuses on the process of teaching and learning in the classroom. In addition, classroom action research is one of problem solving strategies that uses real action and develops abilities to locate and solve the problem.9.

Setting of the Research

Subject of the Research

The first class is class X, the second is class XI and the third is class XII. The tenth grade students of MA Nurul Ulum Kotagajah are 33 students, of which 12 are male and 21 are female students in the academic year 2018/2019.

Procedures of the Research

Planning is the first step of this teaching context and must be prepared by the researcher before taking action. In observation, the teacher must be able to analyze the learning process, the student's activities, the teacher's performance, the material and the result of simulation. Suharsimi Arikunto states that in this step the researcher tries to learn, see and consider the results or effect of the action from some criteria.

Reflection is the activities that aim to analyze, understand, draw conclusions based on the observation of a part that needs correction or the part of improvement has filled the objective. It means that classroom action research is actually aided by the classroom learning process that used systematic planning. In this phase the researcher observes the format and notation to present the data in cycle 2.

The researcher reflected the acting performed and identified the results of observation in the learning process.

The Technique of Data Collection

The purpose of the test is to know how far the student's listening ability can be compared to video clip media before treatment. Post-test is examined for the students after implementing the video clip medium in the teaching of listening skills as a treatment to know the improvement of the student's performance before and after the treatment. One of the purposes of such an observation is to measure the students without their awareness of the observation in order to maximize the naturalness of their language performance.

In this case, the researcher will use observation to get the data about students' activity and teacher performance during teaching learning process observed by observer. In addition, the researcher uses observation as a data collection approach to know how the teaching of listening through video clip media works in the classroom, how the students respond to the media and they are able to improve their reading skills, and how the media is able to is to help the students learn to read English. 14. Documentation is an easy-to-use source of data in action research since many already exist in the institutional system.

It includes portfolios of written work, student records and profiles, lesson plans, classroom materials, letters, class notes and a newsletter, and previous test or exam fields.15 The writer will use the documentation to obtain information about the school profile, such as school history. school, the number of teachers and staff and students at MA Nurul Ulum Kotagajah and also documentation is used to describe classroom activities in the form of photographs. Otherwise, it may include photos, audio and video recordings.16 In this research, the observer uses a field record to record the activity of the students during the learning process in the form of a report.

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

Conclusions

Based on the result of the implementation of video clips as media in listening comprehension, it can be concluded that the listening comprehension of the learners through media video clip has improved significantly in MA Nurul Ulum Kotagajah's tenth grade. Therefore, video clips can be used as interesting media in teaching the learning process as the course material is closed for their life. Then there is a significant improvement in student score from post-test I 64.84 becomes 80.90 in post-test and all students (94%) in cycle II get a score above 70.

This means that the result of cycle II has already reached the indicator that 6% of students get a score of 70 or more.
