Keyword: Problems of teaching and learning speaking, teacher’s efforts

Speaking is one of English skill that must be mastered by students. Because speaking is very important in teaching and learning second language. But in practice there are a lot of students who have low ability in speaking. It is caused by students’s habbit who just meet and practice English speaking in the classroom.

This research described about problems of teaching and learning speaking and the teacher’s effort to solve students’s problem on teaching and learning speaking at the seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Mlarak Ponorogo in academic year 2015/2016.

This research was qualitative approach. It was conducted at the SMPN 1 Mlarak Ponorogo and focused on the description problems of teaching and learning speaking at the seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Mlarak Ponorogo. The techniques of collecting data were interview, observation, and documentation.

The result of the research showed that there were some problems of teaching and learning speaking at the seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Mlarak Ponorogo, such as lack of vocabulary, unfocused attention to the teacher's explanation, less motivation, lack of students’s activity and feelling afraid of speaking. Second, the teacher’s efforts to solve problems of teaching and learning speaking were as follows; drill technique, using video and retelling story.

So, it can be concluded that the problems of teaching and learning speaking can be solved by drill technique, using video and retelling story.

This thesis aims to fulfill one of the requirements for degree of Sarjana in English education. The tittle of the thesis is: Problem Analysis on Learning Speaking Skill at the Seventh Grade Students of SMPN 1 Mlarak Ponorogo in Academic year 2015/2016.

This succes was obtained from the results of the overall effort, but also thanks to support from other parties. For that, on this occasion with all humanity, the researcher want tank to:
