and

Crafts Show:

How

it

Came About

by

Anndte Aiello

Upon seeing the work of the artists worldng on the Culebra marine

exhibit, 1 became curious to see some of the other work they had

done. About the same time, I

cMIlce, d to

dlscover that a J\umber of

STRI people have artistlc hobbies, and

It occw'red to

me that

it

might be nJce to have a small art ahow. In speoJdng with people about

the

Idea,

I

encountered a great

deal of

enthusIasm and learned

of

many more people who

did artisticthlnJ!$.

The Idea very

quickly

expande<j

to

include craJts as weU as art andspecialcoUec- tions. A date was set.

Maria Luz

Calder6n expressed an interest

in

helping to organize and set up the show. She spent a gond deal of

her Ume on it, and made 11 happen

with

the help of Ricardo Cortez and Marcos Guerra.

The show opened at I pm, Tuesday, 2 May 1995, at JheTupper ExhlbU Hall, and will continue through Friday, 12 May. There was l1D.formal opening, and regretting

tha~

we plan to have an offlclal closlng that

will talee place at I

Worthy

Cause Update

Let

us

begin by thanking every single person who has generously given his or her support to

Eric

Amado.

Though few, we have raised 51050.00 so far. There

is

still much work to do and needed money to raise. It will only be done, if we all work together and give it a good.

effort.

Let

us

embrace

this worthy cause and share with the Gonzalez family in their pressing need. The life of a child is at stake and we can do much to better

that

situation. Much depend. on us, let's

join

our efforts and make a dream come true: a healthy and normal life for

a

five

year

old

boy

who doesn't even understand

the

nature of his

aUment.

We can help do it! Those interest- ed in participating

in

the support committee for Eric Amado,

please

contact V1elka Rodriguez at BCI before Wed, May 10. Danlel MiII4n will keep us posted on the new activities planned

to

get more money for

the

Iddney transplant Besides the fund for the operation, the Happy Hour Adtivlty provided some necessary Items to keep Eric Amado in a more

healthy

environment to
