Fernando Santos-Granero, from Montevideo, Uruguay, started working at SfRI as a staff scientist last week. Santos-Cranero obtained his Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences and his "Licendatura" in Anthro- pology at the Pontifida Universidad Cat6lica del Peru in 1980. In 1981 he finished his Master's degree in Social Anthropology at the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he later completed his Ph.D. in the same field, with the dissertation ''The Power of Love: the Moral Use of Knowledge amongst the Amuesha of Central Peru" in 1986. Before coming to STRI, Santos-Granero worked in as director of the AnthropolOgical Research Center of the Peruvian Amazon, tn Iquitos, associate researcher at the French Institute for Andean Studies in Lima, invited lecturer of the Area of Amazonian Studies at the Latin American School of Social Sciences in Quito, and associate researcher at the Social, Economic, Politi~l and Anthropological Research Center of the Pontificia Universidad Cat6lica del Peru in Lima. Since 1992 he served as as research coordinator for the Area of Amazonian Studies at the Latin American School of Social Sciences, in Quito. Santos- Granero is married to Clara Luz De Souza-Peixoto, a recognized activist for the rights of women. and they have two daughters, Maria Soledad.
