THE DEVELOPMENT PROSPECT OF COCONUT AND OIL PALM SMALLHOLDER PLANTATIONS IN NORTH ACEH REGENCY
Abstract
This Research was conducted on oil palm and coconut smallholder plantations in North Aceh Regency. The purpose of this study is to analyze the prospects for the development of oil palm and coconut smallholders estate crops with cost and profit analysis methods and financial feasibility analysis. The analysis showed that the production cost of oil palm plantations is higher than coconut commodities. The results of profit analysis show that both businesses provide benefits to farmers. Furthermore, based on the results of feasibility analysis shows that both businesses are worth trying. This is indicated by the value of NPV > 0, Net B/C >1 and IRR > of the prevailing interest rate and BEP occurs still in the economic life of the plant. But overall oil palm plantations are more profitable than coconut plantations. In addition to having considerable potential, oil palm and smallholder coconut plantations also contribute to regional economic development, both through increasing farmers ' income and in terms of employment and business opportunities for most local communities. Therefore, it can be concluded that the smallholder oil palm and coconut plantation business has considerable prospects to be developed in North Aceh Regency.
