Maggot-black soldier fly can convert a mixture of layer chicken droppings with lemur fish oil into nutrient-rich biomass. Therefore, it is necessary to know whether the addition of lemuru fish oil to laying hen manure as a medium for maggot growth can affect the production of fresh maggot and the nutritional content of maggot meal, especially its fat content and fatty acid composition. In this study, black soldier fly maggots were fed six types of feed consisting of a mixture of egg-laying chicken manure with the addition of lemuru fish oil, which varied and 15%.
A total of 24 bioconverters containing 2 kg of laying hen manure mixture with lemur fish oil, 0.1 g black soldier fly eggs were placed in each bioconverter. The fat content of worm meal was higher with increasing use of lemur fish oil. Lemuru fish oil supplementation was able to improve the nutritional quality of larval meal, the fatty acid content of BSF larval meal was quite complete and contained unsaturated fatty acids.
It has been found that the addition of lemur fish oil to the manure of laying hens can enrich the unsaturated fatty acid content of the black soldier fly. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate how chicken manure mixed with different amounts of lemur fish oil affected the fatty acid composition of BSF biomass and BSF larval production. Materials used in this experiment included laying hen manure, lemur fish oil, and BSF fly eggs.
After hatching, 2 kg of chicken manure and lemuru fish oil were added, then repeated in the second and third week. The independent variable in this study was the level of addition of lemuru fish oil to laying hen eggs as a growth medium for BSF maggots. Average production of fresh BSF maggots (g) and weight of 100 fresh BSF maggots based on the level of treatment of mixing lemuru fish oil with laying hen manure.
The higher the level of the lemur fish oil mixture tends to produce heavier larvae. Mean crude fat content of BSF larval meal (g) produced by treatment of lemur fish oil mixture with broiler chicken manure. Mean fatty acid content of BSF mealybug larvae (%) produced by treatment of lemur fish oil mixture with laying hen manure.
The results of analysis of variance showed that the treatment level of mixing lemuru fish oil with laying hen manure had a highly significant effect (P < 0.01) on the linoleic acid, EPA and DHA content of BSF maggot meal, but had no significant effect on the linolenic acid content. If the laying hen manure used is low in fat, it is better to add lemuru fish oil 12% of the weight of the laying hen manure.
