REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Previous Related Research Findings

The results of previous researchers above showed that the formative assessment is effective in alleviating students' speaking anxiety, improving the students' participation in oral production, promoting students' egos and motivation to learn English, and the gap between low and high reducing achievers while increasing them. overall student performance. Moreover, the main challenges a teacher faces in conducting formative assessment are time-consuming and additional burden on the teacher's burden.

Concept of Assessment

Summative assessment is known as learning assessment and is addressed by various researchers to make this term familiar to all educators. A good deal of informal teacher assessment involves classroom assignments designed to elicit performance without recording scores and making fixed judgments about a student's competence.

Formative Assessment

Moreover, formative assessment is no longer only intended for evaluation, but also for decision-making. To the extent formative assessment is defined as information communicated to the student that is intended to modify his or her thinking or behavior to improve the learning process. Because formative assessment is the partnership that involves teachers and students in their learning goals.

Purpose: the most critical issue when we implement formative assessment in the classroom, we need to identify a clear objective of the assessment and its focus is on the students and the appropriate feedback given to them. Popham (2009:8) and other researchers emphasized training teachers to have well-implemented formative assessment in classrooms. Accommodation: it is a significant challenge for the future of formative assessment because it is provided to enable all tests.

Time: is the triumphant key of formative assessment is the excellent allocation or distribution of time for both teachers and students (ibid.: 11).

The Spoken Language as a Concept

First of all, the timing of feedback should be immediate to allow students to use it at the right time, and teachers should delay the return of tests and assignments should be avoided because it is part of bad timing. The teacher should know each student's level very well to be fair in giving feedback. Furthermore, feedback in relation to the mode can be given orally or in writing.

In addition, to efficiently provide excellent feedback to students, the teacher must assess whether the audience should be an individual student, part of the class, or the entire Brookhart class. Knowing how to give students feedback is closely related to the knowledge that every teacher should have about tests. In fact, spoken word differs from other skills such as written language because it is received in audio.

Speaking is part of everyday life; the average person produces thousands of words a day.

Speaking Skill

They should also be careful about correcting their students' mistakes as this will prevent them from speaking again, especially if it is in front of their classmates. It will make them feel embarrassed. The students have difficulty speaking because they do not have enough vocabulary to communicate better in the target language. In foreign language education, it is important to assess the language skills of all students. The oral assessment is about the students' knowledge of the language items and the ability to use this experience to communicate in that language.

It is also beneficial to evaluate students on an ongoing basis, to check students' "errors, as Luoma says that Normal speech contains a fair number of errors and mistakes." Speaking assessment is used as a tool for the teacher to determine what skills and knowledge students already have and what areas need more focus. It also provides information about student performance that allows teaching and learning activities to be modified in response to student needs and recognizes the significant benefit that feedback can have in the learning process. Formative assessment is an integral part of teaching and learning and is an ongoing process in the classroom.

The integration of self-assessment and peer assessment depends on students understanding the skills for productive activities.

Conceptual Framework

Ask the class to assess oral presentations produced by groups of pupils, or individuals. Asking learners to draw up their criteria for assessing an oral performance, based on their understanding of the learning objectives, and then asking them to apply them. By asking pupils to assess each other in groups of three, two pupils will carry out a pair work task, and the other pupil will assess one or both of the others, perhaps recording the results on a sheet.

As above, but a student will rate the performance and then discuss the results together. Third, the researcher discovered the effectiveness of conducting a formative assessment to assess students' speaking ability.
