Supplemental table 1. The details about the special fabrication process of Chêneau brace.
Step Subtitle Process Picture
1 Find the apical vertebras
Find the apical vertebras (AVs) of the thoracic curve and lumbar curve on the standing Posterior-Anterior Full-spine X-ray.
2 Mark on the skin An experienced orthotist was invited to clearly marked the AVs of the curvatures on the back of the body with a special maker pen.
/
3 Negative mold A negative mold of the participant's upper torso in standing position was fabricated with plaster bandage. / 4 Positive mold A positive mold was acquired by filling the negative
mold with plaster. /
5 Duplicated force position
The selected Transverse Corrective Force positions (pressure centers) and its corresponding pressure zones were duplicated on the positive mold.
6 Modified positive mold
Adjusting the thickness of the plaster in the target pressure zones. Other operations on the correction of vertebral rotation and sagittal alignment fully depend on the orthotists’ personal experience (such as adjusting the orientation of the corrective force for thoracic curve and lumbar curve to 45 degree and 90 degree to the horizontal axis, respectively).
7 Form the original CB
Covered the modified positive model with a heated 4mm thick polypropylene board. After vacuuming, cooling, cutting, grinding and other steps, the polypropylene shell was removed and assembled into the original CB.
8 Try on the CB The participants were invited to perform a continuous 2-hour wearing test to verify the suitability of the CB.
9 Check the pressure zone
The immediate pressure marks on the skin were recorded and measured through the Global Posture System (Chinesport, Italy) in standing position after removing the brace.
10 Adjust the pressure zone
After a comparative analysis with the expected pressure zone location, the inner surface of the target pressure zones on CB were pasted with soft cushions with appropriate thickness and elasticity to achieve the desired pressure zones design and improve comfort.
11 Take x-ray with brace
After two weeks of brace treatment, a Full-spine X- ray was taken for each participant under normal wearing condition of CB to evaluate the thoracic and lumbar deformity after wearing the CB.
